My pc is on windows 2000 Pro and I'm with NTL. I have Norton A/v installed and a firewall.

The problem is that for several days Now I keep receiving the same 17 emails often in duplicate. Meanwhile the unrecieved total is climbing. I will also get an error message after the 17 arrivals saying "the pop 3 server hasn't responded for 60 seconds do I wish to wait for 60 seconds".

I think I'm being dosconnected after the block of 17. Has anybody any suggestions where I should look to sort this out? I can't see anything wrong with the pc and have done a scan. Help please but I won't get any emails!

one solution would be to call the isp and get them to delete the first 17 mails in your mailbox.

failing that, the slightly more involved solution is to open up a command prompt on your pc and type "telnet <your isps pop server> 110" you should get a prompt which basically tels you all is ok. then type "user <your username>" hit enter, and then type "pass <your password>"
now you're logged in, you can type "dele 1" then "dele 2" etc through to "dele 17"
its longer and more involved, but doesn't involve talking to your isp....

hope this helps.....

I've used telnet to delete 'stuck' e-mails - however it's very unuser-friendly. Hopefully you'll find some blow-by-blow instructions on Google. Freeserve used to have a section on this too.

Login to your account via the WebMail option here:

http://webmail.ntlworld.com/en_NTLWorld/logout.html

The password is the one you should have written down when you set-up the account (10 digits).

From here delete any junk mail and empty the Trash folder.

Thank you gents. Problem solved, I think. I logged into ntl and found all the mail. Read it and deleted it so now I'm hoping the pop server will work as normal Will know soon.

I'm also on NTL...and I've just started getting a problem with returned mails...when I know the addy that I'm sending it to is fine. Using hotmail account I can send e.s to the recipient.

Have also used test mails from my NTL addy to 2 other addys and they both work fine.

So does anyone know how I can fix my problem?

I'm still having pop3 server problems sometimes so have to log onto ntl direct to get all the mail. Guess they are "timing me out" if there's plenty of mail, gits.

Mike,

NTL's email connection is generally very poor from 4pm til 8pm. What connection do you have, dial-up or broadband?

What happens when you use Web mail?

Hello Brian,

This is a new problem and for years ntl have been ok. This morning my mail arrived normally via pop3. I use a dialup connection. I can go to the ntl site and collect my mail from there but that's slower. I wonder if it will resolve itself?

Condor, I did and guess what they did. Yep the idiots sent me an email suggesting I phone the help line at an extortionate rate. Fancy sending me an email when my complaint was that I wasn't receiving the mail!

At least I now know how to retrieve it from source
