SC Power Supercharger on Griff
Discussion
Hi everyone, it's taken 6yrs of TVR ownership but i'm here now, just had a couple of visits to SCPower (if you have seen my car it,s the Avus Blue 500 with full aero kit and track day setup, was running 267bhp & 325ftlbs at Griff Growl in 2008). Recently had drive of their SC500 demo Chimera. So what did i think? Well, it's quick, but i have been told on numerous occassions by David and Colin Harvey that one of the most impressive things about the conversion was it's flexability and driveability. So i went out in the 420bhp SC500 with David and he told me to try taking the roundabout at 30mph in 5th gear. He told me it would cope fine. Well if anyone is considering paying to have one of their supercharger systems installed on their pride and joy then i can tell you here and now from personal experience that what he told me was complete b******s!

I dont get what you mean? Good? Bad? explain pleaseIn 5th gear at low rpm's you have to be careful. I had a TT 5.0 engine and slowed for a right turn at some lights. I was in 5th and probably got down to 25 ish as I made the turn. The knocking from the bottom end soon made me dip the clutch. That was some heavy detonation, I heard each individual knock.
I imagine the same thing could happen from a s/c powered car but hey, you shouldn't be in 5th anyway.

I have an S/C 450 Chim, and being a pillock tried the Top Gear "set off in 5th gear" trick. Well, with a bit of clutch control, i managed to get her rolling and yes... I can get to at least the legal speed limit from a standing start in 5th
A great peice of kit, many thanks to SC Power and Racing Green

With a centrifugal blower I'd expect the boost to be negligible at such low revs. It's hard to imagine that being difficult to control. Whether it's tractable at such low revs I have no idea but presumably it'd suffer from all the same problems the standard engines do at very low rpm. Unfortunately since the original post was so cryptic I've no idea what problems (if any) he encountered.Blues said:

Usually I try to avoid labouring the engine but I had to do the same a few months ago due to a broken selector which left me stuck in fourth. Turns out it pulls away in fourth at tickover without any fuss.
