Got a PCMCIA Lan card for the old laptop today, now surfing from the sofa.......much more chilled out now.

Huge thanks to Joust for setting up the 2Mbps connection (BTaP raffle prize), and providing the firewall/router to let me do this.

Just need to figure out how to configure the Firebrick firewall now .

I'm about a day behind you now that my 54G wireless card and router/modem have arrived.

I'm stuck on a mere 512k adsl connection though as i live a little too far from the exchange.

Nope. You said look em up on the internet, and I didn't understand them, probably because I'm a bit thick when it comes to networking in general, and which port does what.

Managed to get the internet to work on both machines, but couldn't figure out how to upload via ftp. So I enabled all ports (clearly not the right way to configure a firewall), in an attempt to solve the problem, but with no joy. Its no big deal really.

So I'm using zone-alarm at the moment, which is OK, but software driven rather than hardware.

So if you do have any instructions, I'd love to get a copy.

I have now returned to the sofa after a couple of days in the kitchen!! Finaly got p!55ed of with Windows updates and have rebuilt my laptop with Redhat and got the wireless card working. Can't figure out how I did not manage it last time I tried as this time it worked a piece of cake (Redhat 9). Maybe my brain has got biggererer!
