Just flogged my rs4 and am awaiting delivery of an M3 dct, edc saloon with all the trimmings. Did this as the RS4 was getting old and clocking miles and audi dont do RS4's new anymore (need 4 doors).

But get the feeling you are either an audi man or a bmw man. Am I strange not to see a problem with the switch of manufacturers?

Congrats, that should be amazing. I have my test drive of the coupe booked for tomorrow.

Personally, I love the idea of the R8, but the RS models just don't seem to be as much fun as the M cars and for that reason I will stick with BMW and probably never actually own an Audi.

It just seems a bit like porsche ferrari. As a porsche driver, you come out with lots of practical cogent reasons why a porsche is better than a ferrari. In your heart, you want a ferrari though.

Not sure its the same with Audi / BMW mind, but bmw do seem to attract more drivers and audi's more mechanics.

Personaly, I prefer rwd. Oversteer is more fun than understeer.

My brother in law sold his 56 plate RS4 & bought a new Lexus IS-F last year, much prefers the IS-F.

Must say, I am really looking forward to the M3. To me it seems like an RS4 with all the changes I would like to make done.

On a slight tangent I see you have had a 911 Turbo 996, how did you find that compared to the RS4 and the experience you have had so far with a E92 M3, reason I ask is ive been in the past tempted by a 996 Turbo, but was put off by peoples negativity towards them?

Well, it was great when it worked. The cabin was dated, even when it first came out, and the whole motor felt a bit plastic. But it could shift in a straight line, that was for sure.

However, owning it put me off porsches for half a decade or so. RS4 ownership made me want another updated one, which audi in their infinite wisdom dont do. Hence M3 saloon on its way. 997, not sure. I had a C2 s gen I for a month and liked it. Cabin better and more modern tighter feel to it. I think the 996 model might be an embarrasment to Porsche as time goes on, even though it made them a lot of money. Also, you can pick up a 996 turbo for 30k with 50k on the clock. A 993 turbo with the same milage 10 years older would cost you more. That should tell you how history has recieved the 996 turbo.

If you want a classic porker, get a 993 turbo. Anyone who knows about cars will know you are a man of distinction!
