Driver window needed!

You may have seen my post about being broken into! Well i'm now trying to get hold of a drivers side window (or the windscreen company is) and not having much luck.


I rang Noble... they were showing one in stock but wouldn't sell directly to the windscreen company.

Windscreen company rang PeterSmithCars (Derby) to order part... Today they come back and said the factory have given the only window they had left (and said was in stock) to a supplier to get copies made. Estimated delivery, no idea!



Therefore, has anybody got a spare drivers window? Or any other suggestions (sensible please)

To get you on the road you could install some perspex... it will be cheap and secure but it wont wind up and down which will be the only dissadvantage.

my advice is to ring round the noble service centres and see if you can find a damaged noble and buy the door/glass

i'm very dissapointed that Noble do not cary stock for our cars !

the front windscreen is from a Elan - i wonder if the side glass is from another similar car ?

It wouldn't be too hard to make it wind up and down - just cut it to the same size as the glass (since your driver's side is broken, you can use the passenger's window as a template...). Salvage the metal channel off the bottom of what's left of your broken window, and glue the plastic into the channel using silicone or urethane. The metal channel has the track that engages with the rollers on the window regulator, so once everything sets up, you can install it just like a glass window. Only problem is that perspex is highly susceptible to scratching - rolling it up and down may cause scratches.

Since the glass is flat, it should be fairly easy to get a replacement window cut - over here in the states, there are shops that specialize in auto glass for custom cars and hot rods. Maybe there's something similar in the UK?
