is it not about time the classic car races were split from the dressing up, film set, living in the past themes.

It seems to me that they could make an event for actors and people who like to dress up etc etc.

The Revival is a monster event, but is it not about the cars and the drivers.

Seems to me half the people there do not even watch the racing....

Err, did you go? I ask because all w/e they were pushing next year's 'Vintage' event which is exactly what you are suggesting.
I for one do not want Revival to abandon the 'recreation ethic' as it's a welcome relief from having to see football shirt-wearing hoards and men exposing legs that should be left covered!

Yes it was busy this year but I would hate to see the format changed. I and a mate go with our wives (all suitably attired). The lads establish a permanent base at a suitable vantage point with a supply of food liquid refreshment cameras and moblie phones. We (the lads) spend our time revelling in the Cars, Racing and wonderful aircraft. The Girls are with us for lunch and the races they want to see and disappear for the rest of the time for retail therapy/crowd watching etc. All in all a wonderful day for all concerned as there is something for everyone (My wife loves it).

My only disappointment was they had sold out of the Tin/enamel Tea mugs which I wanted to replace my pistonheads mug that got broken by the cleaners in the office.

I saw the wall writing (by a black Caddy) but thought it was just words as there was not a date just a month (August).

What's the story on the Vintage idea?

We discussed this over lunch Sunday.

Aimed at a different set of people surely. I wouldn't be interested without the racing for instance, and we got the girls interested in the Revival event because of the dressing up aspect.

Can't see male-centred corporate junketting being interested, although Goodwood's market research must suggest a number of people wan't more excuses to dress-uphippy If so they'll have to be extremely nice to their men to take themtank

I like to spend my time trackside...

I did see a wall with graffiti type writing but did not take in that it was an advert for a new event!

I would go along with the wish to keep the Revival as a period event, indeed I would go further as there is a danger it could turn into some sort of comedy event. I saw a guy dressed as an explorer from the late 19th century complete with Pith helmet, hardly 1948-66. I also get a bit fed up with all the military uniforms and dad's army shenanigans, it wasn't a racing circuit during the war so why bother?

I guess that is why Goodwood are introducing the vintage at Goodwood event to cater for some of this crowd.

It was RAF Westhampnet, however. That's why the military uniforms are relevant.

Also National Service continued until the early 60s so a fair proportion of the population would have been in uniform. Just that 'oiks' tended not to attend Goodwood meetings if the photos of the crowd are representative.

Absolutly, indeed why bother with all the Spitfires and Mustangs after all they certainly weren't beating-up the airfield in the 1960's - let's just have historic cars racing at a proper race track so people just interested in the car scan actually see them. Oh hang on, that's the Silverstone Classic smile

At least there is more space at Silverstone...

Maybe they can cater for those War re-enactment people with their tanks and associated cars etc. Plus re-live the MOD era, add in the Rocker battles/fights it would be great.

The Revival is just trying too hard and is covering too many things and the space has run out...

Go to Silvestone then. I'm off to Sps this coming weekend I expect many of the same cars will be there. Goodwood is what it is because of the detail that goes into it. I think what you're saying is it's become a victim of it's own success (and I too thought it was excessivly corwded this year) but take away the theme and you've just got a historic race meeting.
