Removing Cat from Y-Piece

Hi,

Couple of questions if you don't mind:

1) Has anyone here done it?

2) Is it just a case of cutting out the centre piece - removing, and then welding back in?

3) Will there be any noticeable effect on the exhaust system (i.e. loss of back pressure).

The idea is to remove the cat, weld a bung in for a wideband sensor and have it ceramic coated at the same time as the manifolds.

Didn't want to leave the cat in as it may mess with the wideband readings? Any other thoughts?

Thank you, I am not sure how I missed that on the search. But I may have not gone to page three, I thought it was just discussing manifold cats.

Still not sure about the size of the main cat without a cat in it? Is anyone running one of these, and does it sound 'tinny'?

I'm running a decatted Y piece. The cat was removed by slicing the bottom of the main 'dustbin' section, scraping out the molten remains of the cat and then bodging the last few bits out with a chisel, then welding the bottom back on carefully lined up with the marks made before cutting.

I don't see any particular reason to do this unless the cat is blocked (as mine was). I confirmed this by measuring the pressure at one of the lambda bungs before getting the hacksaw out, and if you suspect yours is blocked I'd suggest you do the same.
