Homework nowadays
Discussion
When I was a kid my homework comprised of going to the library, selecting and borrowing a book about XYZ, reading up on it and presenting a piece of work with the salient points.
Just watched my 11yr old Google "Channel Tunnel", copy and paste into a Word file, copy a couple piccies, print it off and 'voila' - homework complete! When I enquired as to what she had actually learned she said "they just told us to get information and take it back to school".
Beats the hell out of me!

Im pretty sure the aim is to get the kids to find the information and bring it school, where the teacher can help them interperet it and they can write about it. When I was at school (only last year) copying and pasting got you in trouble. Stop whinging about how school isn't as hard as hard these days, it seems to be a common rant on here.

Not a rant,I know what I had to do at school and I've seen what my kids have had to do....it's a lot easier now... no disrespect meant but you have no experience of what it was like so how can you compare....
When I was at intermediate school (10-12) we had to to do fairly considerable amounts of homework, you got in trouble for copying and pasting, and often we were told to do by hand otherwise it wouldn't be marked. In high school, one of my accounting assignments for instance (3000 word financial analysis of a listed company) was much more extensive than any assignments I have been given at university so far, doing the equivalent course.
I am sure students worked harder at school in previous years, but not to such a degree that many seem to think.

When I was at school my parents used to make sure I did my homework properly.
And look how you turned out!

Do it right now!

My 6 year old came home from skool the other day and instead of us going across the road to the park opposite our house to play a bit of cricket, he informed me that he couldn't 'play out' today because he has homework. FFS he's SIX
I was gutted as I'd taken time-out and was really looking forward to spending some time with him.
This made me ponder upon how much I had HATED homework and how it was an infringement upon MY time. After all I spent the best part of 7 to 8 hrs per day getting ready, walking to and fro and attending the wretched place. So why in the few hours of the day that were left should I devote any more of my life to this cause?
So, this is a moot point but.... Can a parent inform the school that homework is say 'against our religion' as obviously a trainee Jedi must spend part of his day attending school as well as being able to enjoy a bit of quality time on the cricket field with his Dad?

how old are the kids in question? If they ar 5-8 it's probably ok. If that is someone completing their postgraduate thesis then we really need to start worrying!
is it b
ks! Plagiarisim is plagiarism at 8 just as it is at 28.If it was write an essay about the channel tunnel then it's plagrism.
If it was find some info and bring it to class for discussion then it isn't.
It's only plagurism if they attempt to present it as their own.
