GATE ... I fear it's too late

The suffix ... gate - Camillagate, Irangate, Squidgygate, Spygate and now Crashgate - has now been in use for so long that I doubt anyone under the age of about 45 even knows where it came from!
The Watergate scandal which culminated in the 1974 resignation of US President Richard Nixon, started in 1972 when five men broke into the Democratic Party Headquarters, in the Watergate Centre in Washington, to bug it. This was on the direct orders of Nixon's staff, as was the subsequent cover-up.

Since then, anything in the news with a bit of intrigue to it gets a ... gate added to the end of its name.

So I'm afraid it has entered the language. Indeed, I found all this information by simply typing the word 'gate' into Wikipedia's Search box!
