Hello everyone,

I have been lurking for a while and this is the first proper post from me in here. Although I have a Rolex that I inherited from my father I rarely wear it and have always used my phone or computer for the time! However of late I have been thinking about finding a watch that I actually like and that I will wear each day and I would really like a Speedmaster Professional.

Now to the point:I now have the funds to buy the watch and could buy a second-hand Speedmaster BUT if I were to buy a Christopher Ward C40 Speedhawk instead I would have enough left for a USA Fender Telcaster that I also really want!

Now I know that you cannot really compare the CW with the Omega but I've read good things about the CW watches and wondered if anyone could comment on whether I would still be wanting the Speedie if I bought the Christopher Ward watch. (I have also considered Sinn watches....in fact I am still considering a Sinn after reading up on them on here.

Grateful for any pointers.

L.F.

From previous experiences of buying things, I have found that I have always regretted settling for something, buy the Omega now, and save a bit of cash and buy the Guitar later biggrin

Yup, went through a similar process over a year ago and now have the Speedmaster.

Yep. Rarely works the other way unless you decide that the thing you really want is a crock o' ste after you buy the thing you didn't quite want.

Hello!

I'd say that basically there is little to fault on the CW watches, good value for money and good quality watches with little or no complaints from what I've heard - the movement in the CW C40 is a 7750 which is used in most auto chronographs so pretty reliable and accurate. It's day/date too. If you opted for this it wouldn't let you down. Personally I think the design is over-fussy though, especially when you compare it to the utilitarian, no-nonsense yet elegant looks of the Speedmaster. Both Omega and Sinn focus on legibility and it shows when you compare the three together.

You'll find very few people don't like the Omega, whether it be for history, quality, aesthetics or any other reason, I'd say that it's a classic watch, now and in the future. The only down-side is that like Submariners they can be a bit ubiquitous, but that's only relative and you're not really going to notice it in real life. I don't like it enough to buy one personally, but wouldn't criticise the choice at all.

Sinn has an extremely good range, have some very interesting watches and proprietry technology going on but are also fairly rare. Beware - if you get sucked in to looking too deeply at the Sinns they'll become an itch that you'll have to scratch - my first is stuck in the post at the moment but although Sinn was an easy choice it was difficult to narrow down which model as there are so many good ones.

But this sums it up for me:

And the reply to that would be 'Good choice, perfect'.

Financially the 2nd hand Speedy would be the better bet - although I do like the CW, I think it might be a good 2nd hand purchase (if not slightly rare).
