What the hell is this bug?!

My friend has just sent me this picture of a 5cm long bug thing she found on her back door.



Any idea what it is? Should she be scared?

Its a cricket, or a grasshopper. One or the other anyway.

My cat delights in bringing them inside and then pouncing on them when they jump.

The grasshoppers that I've seen in reptile shops do not seem as fat across the back as that one, and are moer beige in colour though?

Is it a mutant?!

She does live in Norfolk - anything is possible!!

It looks like it is that bush cricket thing - I'll tell her to find a bearded dragon or iguana to feed it to.

The thing was spotted in Norfolk. If it were in Stoke it would have webbed feet, a big chin, never go further on holiday than Rhyl, call everyone duck and eat "cheps" with its fish.

Tell her to put her finger near it (the bug not the backdoor)..

..if it jumps away, then its a cricket / grasshopper - if it bites her it probably not isn't.
