My shift cable broke the weekend right at the gearbox threaded end, so I wonder if I have too much lateral stress on it. I have a G50/52 with the CMS side shifter. Question is are the cables generic and if so what from? I'd like to get something state side if possible, (shipping costs from the UK kill me) and while I have to replace one cable what is available in an upgrade like teflon lined cables that will make shifting better?

Thanks,

They are sourced from:

You will need to remove the cable and sheath to replace it (new one can't be reinstalled in the old sheath). Call to see if you can ship the old one to them to serve as a pattern (after measuring the length of the sheath and the cable).

What happened? These are tough cables.

Thanks Ken,

Not sure what happened I went to find reverse and suddenly the shifter was loose. It broke right on the threaded end at the transaxle and I managed to manually get it into 3rd and drive home, where I welded the cable end back together temporarily.

I have never been happy with the shifting setup of the car, firstly I had a renegade shifter and couldn't get enough cross gate movement to have both reverse and 5th. I switched to a Porsche 996 shifter, better as at least I have ll the gears but still not as good and smooth as I'd like. The shifter is a long reach as it doesn't sit back between the seats.

I'm now considering my options;
CMS billet shifter
Change to factory rod shifter set up
Mastershift sequential shifter package

I hear the base of the CMS shifter is too wide to fit between the seats still, so I'm currently leaning toward the latter sequential shifter if it'll work with the G50/52.

You are correct, the CMS shifter base is too wide for use between the seats.

It is hanging on my shop wall and I used the factory shifter mount to mount the CMS shifter:

The for/aft gate feel of this setup is fine but I have to increase the effort required to move between the lateral gates and eliminate the possibility of shifting into reverse unless intended. I'm planning on adding a reverse lockout and a spring in the shifter with this goal in mind.
