On my route to and from work there is a Weatherspoons. Today as i passed on the way home there stood a patron outside leaning on the railings alongside the pelican crossing enjoying a fag and watching the world go by. His walking stick was hooked on the railings beside him.
He looked to me as if 1, he did'nt need the stick & 2, probably does'nt need to worry about going to and from work as i and many others are keeping him in the style to which he believes is his god given right. This is'nt a unique event for this location, non-smokers have to run the gauntlet daily as the pavement outside is always occupied in this way.
Leaving aside the rights and wrongs as i'm annoyed enough by this, but the thought occured to me that this was a perfect picture of what i'm begining to be ashamed to call my home town. So, no offence but if you live in a picture postcard seaside hamlet then i don't want to know.
What sights do you see that have a similar effect ? As a bonus, where do you think i live? The clues are, Cheshire, and within walking distance of the Mersey.

I exited the motorway, down a steep but straight slip road before turning left. On my right are the hills of the Chilterns, red kites circle overhead as I head past expensive looking detatched houses, set back from the B road heading towards my home. Through another small village, complete with needless traffic calming width restriction and nice looking pub but a station long since rendered useless and turned into housing thanks to Dr Beeching until we enter the village where I live. We pass a slightly chavvy looking brewery owned pub (sadly, complete with Sky Sports banner flying outside) and into the centre of the village where I park up under a horse chesnut tree wondering how many conkers will land on the car during the night and how long before all of them have fallen off the roof on the drive to work in the morning.

Sorry, got a bit carried away there, but it's not in Cheshire hehe

Good bit of road that, I once had to slow down up there in the Lotus, someone on a KTM was trying to keep up and I was worried he'd slip off on the leaves in the outside lane!

Have you been to 'Dibley' before? Nice place for a post Sunday lunch walk, as long as someone is sober enough to drive there!

If we're ready for another one:-
I won't do my current location, as it's in my profile.
Before I moved here I lived in a small village about equi-distant from Reading and Oxford, near a small but very old town.
It has/had one church, one pub and three shops.
It has been by-passed since I left and most people will never have seen the village.
Its name is too long to fit on most forms with rows of boxes for letters.

Hmmm, lets see
It used to be well known for mining and building steam trains
Now its famous for me living here(yeah right!)and being in the news recently for what two little scrotes did to two other little scrotes

Apart from that, we have 3 wetherspoons, a new footie stadium, a famous horse race, and it has to be said the worlds worst bus lane which clogs peoples drive to work up no end, and the dumbest drivers i have come across for some time, and i used to live near leicester!!

Is it a cross between Aintree, and the M4, because the dumbest bus lane in the known universe is on the M4 but the rest suggests Aintree to me.

Close (my wife came from there) but the other side of Wallingford.
