Why does ending a friendship which was really always one sided and a fecking joke, still hurt so much?

Well it's done, the final email has been sent, the addys deleted, along with the phone numbers....plus the tears have fallen.

Hey people if you have mates who have helped you out again and again, show them the respect they deserve....or you will lose them in the end, like he has lost me frown

Time for bed Ms Penny

Brave but sounds like correct decision (Did you post about this guy not so long ago?) I got very close to cutting off a friend a few years ago due to the one sided way it was developing, however I was lucky enough that she realised how she had been and made steps to sort it.

I don't see the point in formalising things like friendships with a letter or whatever, I just avoid them from then on and if they ask, I will tell them!

Usually you don't talk much to someone you're growing apart from anyway so ignoring them isn't much of a step up.

He doesn't sound like much of a friend so don't know why you're upset.

bks to him.

Happened to me twice now, both females (if thats relevant)shoot

Known one for 12 years and she has disowned me, cow. She even went to the bother of deleting all, I say all, my comments on her facebook page. (just like to say only reason I joined was of a sad family death and he had a facebook page started)
Now ok, they were not really in keeping with the general theme but all her phycofantic "friends" are so far up her arse it sad!

Its ok, I have friends on PH...er...ND where are youuuuuu! cool

ETA She's above you!

Is this a girl thing? I've never broken up with a mate, lost touch but never broken up.

Sadly seen the back of some good friends, usually over situations which I could not move on i.e. choose friend or choose family, in that instance the decision is obvious, other times it has been created by a change of circumstances. I now accept that I will have many friends throughtout life but not all will see my life through from start to finish.

Its maybe better off in the long run forgetting about people that cos you that much pain, sometimes you need to think about your own happiness.

What, ladder theory going to make another guest appearance?

I'm with Alan on this one - have to say I find the concept of telling someone "you're not friend anymore" a little bit, I dunno... infant school? Surely just find another guy to tease hang out with. Maybe it's a girl thing though.

He was never a friend - every time you mentioned him, it was clear he was using your affection for his own ends, yet you always defended it.

And that's just on here, let alone "real life".

Glad you've woken up.

I'm with you on this - do you give someone a warning first or do you go straight to "You're Fired"?

As for the deleting Facebook comments....

Why delete everything?

Simply fail to respond to anything for a bit and see if the attitude/behaviour changes? IF not, then you are not forced to reply?

Family can be like this too........

Sounds more like something out of those "American feel good high school kid movies" that I hate so much.

I don't think I have ever broken up with one of my friends. Sounds a bit... gay.

Think we all go through this at one time or another.

I was best mates with someone for 10 years - helped out with money, time, advice, etc all the while as best mates do. I was the one who dialled 999 when he overdosed (pathetically i might add on paracetomel). I helped him out no end, for him to ignore calls, texts, even to the point of when i used to call round he would hide in the kitchen and ignore the door.

In the end. this so-called mate moved, didn't tell me, yet used to call or turn up when he needed something, or some help.

I then realised this person wasn't worth my time or effort. Supposed to have been my best mate. Now, I have no regrets. Haven't seen him, spoken to him for months. However, since then he has spread rumours of me having an affair (which I am not) to others in the hope it got back to my wife etc etc( ironic considering he never sees his kid and spent most of his relationship bed-hopping before his ex left him!). He now has his bedsit and his Xbox, I have my life.

Sometimes you are much better off without so-called friends.

I don't get it. Was this "friendship" just that, or was it a sexual relationship?

Formally ending the latter is perfectly normal, but formally ending a simple friendship just seems weird if you're over the age of 8. Did you really send an email to someone declaring that you no longer wanted to be their friend? confused

IME the latter part is a bit unusual, sadly. smile
