Been looking at a P38-its decent etc but I have a question. It sits very low when stopped and turned off. I have been told that its OK and will rise when started etc.

Is that the truth, or is it the air suspension thats knackered?

Thanks gurus!

I'm pretty sure you have to engage the boarding mode if you want it (press the down arrow button). Should stay in pre-selected position otherwise.

If the airbags are duff then I suppose the air will escape and the car sits down.

Any accompanying clanking of the compressor at all whilst at rest?

I've owned a P38 for 7 years and it should only sit low if you have lowered the suspension(pressed the down arrow) to make it easier to get in and out of, otherwise it should sit at normal ride height when parked!

Its more than likely has a leak. Failing that a faulty ride height sensor.

Thanks all. I havent physically seen the car yet, only pics and talking to the guy. I will call him back and ask what position the button is in. I guess I will need proof that it stays up for a day or 2.

should be a good bargining point if all else is ok ! airbags are easy to change at a cost of about £350 for the parts.

Read my P38 Buyers guide , which has photos of the common problem areas including air spring inspection.
Also the hose connections into the springs and compressor can leak - use soapy water to find the leaks. If the system is leaky, the compressor maybe on its last legs too. It should just get up to the correct height and stay there. If the compressor is running all the time (or every 20-30 seconds) - then its loosing air.
