Reading the article on Autosport about Mosley predicting less friction if Todt wins there is a distinct admission that things have not been what they should be within the FIA:
I still don't believe him, however, that Todt will provide this, and even if it wasn't for the things Todt has done previously, the fact that Mosley has him as his preferred candidate is enough to mean he is the wrong person for the job.
Edited to add that the comments at the end of the article where he tries to discredit Vatanen are pretty despicable,

Mosley has a few highly developed talents. There can be no doubt about that.
Perhaps his single greatest talent is his ability, in a seemingly reasonable tone of voice, to say something which is arrant rubbish, yet he can do it without his face cracking a smile or going red (okay, maybe that's because he'd rather have another part of his anatomy cracking a smile and going red).
This guy is telling the world today - with a straight face - that the only reason that he clung ferociously to power for the last 5 years was that he had to wait for Jean Todt to become available to succeed him as FIA president. He has also said many times this year that Todt was the only person that he knew of who was capable of doing the job.
Yet in 2004 Mosley quit the job in a huff, with no one lined up to succeed him.
How, on the one hand, can the job be so demanding, and people with the requisite qualifications for it so rare, that of the four billion adults on this earth only Jean Todt could do it, but on the other hand in 2004 Mosley had no compunctions about walking away from it completely, with no succession plan?
The Mosley thesis - that there is no one anywhere, but for Jean Todt, who could do this job, which is effectively being a primary school headmaster - is absurd beyond words. For starters, unlike the FIA presidency, the headmaster's job is actually important.
We've got generals commanding entire theatres of war, we've got CEOs running $100B international conglomerates, we've got chief neurosurgeons, we've got heads of the World Bank, the Red Cross, the International Olympic Committee and the International Criminal Court, none of whom can cut the mustard. Nope, we've got to wait until Jean Todt is ready to privilege us by taking the position. Only then will the FIA be in safe hands.
You just could not make this stuff up.

of course the flip side is that this latest rambling and BCE's whinge about suitable candidates last week shows that perhaps they are worried that Todt won't win it?
Perhaps the sanguine charm of Vatanen amidst the backgroung of crashgate is making his candidacy ever more palatable to insular world of F1.

Its not just about F1, its about motoring as a whole as I understand it.
To ignore Ari's 10 years as an MEP shows what little grasp Spanky has on reality. (Not that being an MEP is that wonderful in my book!) Its just that Vatanen throughout his whole career has been unfailingly candid, patently honest and exudes an air of humility with an underlying confidence.
That makes him able to walk tall, safe in the knowledge he has no skeletons in the cupboard and can look anyone in the face.
Cant see Spanky and Toady being able to do 10% of that. Just hope the world association of blazers are able to recognise that and let truth and honesty for once succeed
