The wife is having problems trying to source a Bridgestone 245 35/18 run flat tyre for her 123D, BMW have told her they can't get one until next week, which she doesn't totally believe smile, she has tried National tyres and they can't get hold of any for two weeks, the tyres are insured so she can only use certain approved garages so I was just wondering if anyone else has had problems trying to source these?

Sticks.

Not myself, but I have read of people experiencing the same problem. Less so of late, I thought. Tried a main dealer?

A friend had similar issues with 19" B/stone runflats last year for his 335d M/sport.

Micheldever Tyres near Winchester have them (rears are 254/35/18. Fronts are 215/40/18) I have just been quoted £199.64ea for the rears & £164.88 fronts. I have also been quoted £416.00 to have all 4 replaced with Falkens.

Anyone have any experience with Falkens? Getting a top brand in non RFT in these sizes is proving difficult. They have Conti's but it would mean mixing 2's with 3's. That would work out at about £575 for all 4.

Which Falkens?

A lot of us Z4 owners have replaced the RFTs with Falken FK452s - they've got a good reputation as a good tyre at a cheap price. I daresay they won't be on par with something like the Pilot Exalto 2's, but then they're about half the price: £350 plus £50 mobile fitting for 4 tyres in my sizes (225/40/18 and 255/35/18).

--^^^^^^ Yep FK452's. I'll do some research and see what I can find. I have a sales job to do on the wife! "The man at the dealer said .....etc"

Cheers

If the dealer you tried is not on the BMW Tyre programm then their normal supplier may be suffering a shortage of stock. If they are on the programm then there may only be stock at the warehouse in Germany and it can take approx 5 working days for them to arrive. They can be ordered under a normal part number but it takes a bit of work to find what car runs the same tyre and lists it as a summer option that can be bought seperatly, but it can be done. What BMW normally do when there is a shortage is request we order them with a chassis number to stop anyone stock piling them. I've had to order runflats on a customer services basis before when there was a shortage of the Bridgestones for the E90.

Hi PartGuru,

What do you think of this? I went to get the tyre changed over at a Quick Fit, they found the nail in it and called the insurance company to get the ok to change it? We then found out that the dealer who changed the tyre two months ago has given the insurance company a different code for the tyre, conclusion is that the insurance company won't pay out for the tyre and I'm awaiting a call back from BMW? Now as it was the dealers fault I would expect him to change the tyre free of charge? They wanted me to get it changed pay for it and then bring them the invoice, they wouldn't commit to paying the invoice so I said no! Am I being unreasonable expecting them to change it FOC?

Hi Lensey

If I was in your shoes I would be wanting the dealer to sort it out as well. I would've taken the car back to them as soon as KwikFit highlighted the problem.
From a dealer point of view it's worrying that the tyre insurance people can backout of paying out on a wrong code?? What code was it?? If it's an admin or process problem at the dealer then that's their problem and they need to sort your puncture out, smile nicely at you and then take it up with the insurance company. It's never something that is budgeted for but these things happen.

Just to update; I spoke to the dealer, I think after he realised I wasn't going to budge he agreed to pay for the tyre, he wanted me to get it done at another garage miles away, I agreed but said unfortunately I would have to invoice him for my time and it isn't cheap! He told me to take it down the road biggrin I got it changed on the Saturday and I received the cheque on the Tuesday, very happy with the way they dealt with it and they are back in my good books again, however I do wonder how my wife would've got on with them if it had been her they dealt with?
