I really enjoyed watching HB on TV and have read a few reviews of his book 'the big fat duck cookbook', which looks quite interesting. Does anyone have this book? Is it just a coffee table type of book or is it a good cookery book/interesting read - also I've noticed the much smaller and cheaper 'the fat duck cookbook'. Any comments on these?

I have the Big Fact Duck Cookbook and although a fascinating read it isn't a cookbook. It does contain many recipes, together with a background to the science of some of his creations, buy most of the recipes are too complex for the home cook, or they require specialist equipment. If you're interested in how Heston developed his skills and would like to know the ingredients for some of his signature dishes then this is a good book, however if you plan to recreate any of them, think again.

It would be a dedicated home cook that tried to recreate a full dish!

There are some parts of dishes/techniques that you could pickup.

However, its still a nice book to read through

Thanks for the comments - I wasn't expecting to be able to recreate the dishes at home, just interested in what sort of book it was. I suppose I'd better just order it and get reading!
