Just watching "Wounded" on BBC 1. It really brings home the severity of the injuries the soldiers receive from IED's. No matter how many times you hear about it on the news, nothing brings home the stark reality of a 22 year old, who has lost both legs and his sight like following them through their re-hab (and that only gives a mere facsimile of what it must be like).

To all the men and women currently serving their country throughout the world, may you finish your tours in safety and rest assured that your countrymen are extremely proud of you and to all the men and women wounded in service of your country, may you feel proud of what you do and who you are.

Christ, it somewhat puts into perspective how trivial my daily concerns are.

One of the most moving things I have seen.

I find it deeply disturbing & upsetting to think that a generation of young soldiers are being maimed/killed for no reason than the incompetence of our GOVERNMENT

Well that's it, I lasted to the end but broke down when Andy held his baby.

These young men would never want my pity, but f**king hell they have my respect.
Brave, brave men.

There are quite a few charities dealing with veterans - H4H is doing some great work, but there's also CombatStress, Erskine, Poppyscotland (who I work for), SSAFA and several others. I'm not sure what happens south of the border with the Legion, but up here, we're responsible for the Poppy Appeal, and that then gets distributed out to the various charities (as well as the benevolence cases we deal with directly)

eta - it's common misconception that the money raised in November goes solely to the production of the poppies and associated bits and bobs. It doesn't - not by a long shot.
