Just a Quick question but how much would it cost to build from scratch (including buying the donner) a 500bhp Flat 6 turbo unit ?
No need to buy a donna kebab- they are only about £3 anyway
Depends where you want your 500bhp to come from? single turbo or 993 twin turbo, single turbo power delivery with 800kg would be very flipping scary as it came on boost & thats just in the dry!!
Very very very rough guestimate price wise, but single turbo power plants could be found from say £2k (from 260 to 380 as standard dep what year) rising up to say £8k for a really sweet for a 993 (408bhp as standard) lump.

Would it be one of these?
www.kraftwerkz.net/
Yes and No.
It was but now Graham Turner has improved alot of things on the car, and is selling his version.
He produces all the parts him self, so now you can get this in Surry England...
Closer than you think....

Oh no, Ive fallen for another car again. It was fantastic, as close to the original as you would want.
£35,000 Complete minus engine, gearbox and Paint.

There is a realy good string about this car on a 917 forum (moderators sorry if this is un PC) but it is a good string and very informative www.cknet.org.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13
They are actualy now producing a flat 12 to go in the car as well!! Aussies have to be good for somthing they cant play rugby
I think it would be tough to get it through an SVA(skid you did this for your cobra any comments?)the only original 917 road car I know of was for one of the martini family and had to have hand cut slick tyres but was road registered in Alibama USA so i guess 30 years on and this side of the pond things may not be so easy.
Anyone else done SVA??
Anyone else done SVA??
My kit car was put on the road before SVA, so I haven't been through it, but there is some useful info on the PH Kit Car forum for anyone interested ...

If Ultima's get through SVA, maybe one of these can too with the right effort???

SVA shouldn't be a problem and I'm sure the manufacturer has already been asked this, or looked into it.
There is a .pdf on the Kit car forum to download.
Ideally as long as the paperwork is correct, and the 'rules' are read to the letter anything can go through.
My car went through with a higher ride height, quiet pipes, all nice sharp bits removed and rubber sierra steering wheel, mirrors etc etc.
It was undrivable...... but Hey!.... it was legal!!!
Straight back to the shop to be put back 'properly'
Problems could be the need for side indicators (I've removed mine now) and if you have any radius sharper then 2.5mm it's a failure, and your engine must have cats if it was originally fitted and after a certain date (1992 I think).
Anyway..... anythings possible.
Lightweight... fancy going halves???????

The Gent at the show is having an SVA Expert (SVA Tester) go round to see the car and give him advice as to how he can make it road Legal....
Initial reports are good...
I would not buy it if I thourght I could not do it myself. Having SVAed my Ultima myself, I know I could do it. It may look ugly for the test, but it will pass.

The LMK website says the first UK delivery of one of their cars was to Graham Turner. Is he linked with them in some way or has he just bought one of their cars and (can't think of a polite way of putting this) ripped it off? This is the car that was shown at Autosport, right? Under what guise was it being shown?
Not bothered about the ethics of the situation, they're all rip-offs of the original after all, just interested in understanding who's producing what so I can get more details.
I had been toying with building a GT40 replica in my mind, but a 917 replica is an even more tempting prospect!
Chris
Hey, at least they put the motor ahead of the rear axle, where it belongs! You know, if I had one of those, I would even consider putting in a 6-cylinder air cooled opposed cylinder oil dripper!
It would appear to be the fast conveyance between two given oil spots :-)

How's it going?
Yes indeed Chris the car dislayed at the Autosport Show is LMK #009 made by Kraftwerkz in Australia. Sold to Graham Turner during May 2003. Unfortunately not many people know this due to the lack of credit given to the makers during the show.
Following up the excellent reception at the California German Autofest it's been great to see that UK 917 fans have been keen on it.
If you have an interest in learning more about these cars get in touch with the fellas at Kraftwerkz for more details. It's a great project.

If I'm not too knackered after the Boat Show I might consider going on saturday.
