Mate of mine is having a new Merc C class delivered early October, he mentioned the dealer suggested a paint protection package which is supposed to literally form a bond round the paint to help protect it. As you can imagine, being MB it was not £50 wink

Now it struck me that you detailing guys could probably deliver exactly the same product for less money, and perhaps he can get some kind of refinishing thrown in too - I've seen enough examples of detailers work on even new cars to know the paint will always benefit from some expert attention, even if the car has literally just been delivered.

Please PM me if you think you could do the job for reasonable money sometime around early October.

Dealer sold treatments are just okay - but it's cheap for them to buy and apply, so given away as a deal clincher is cheaper than a set of mats or something with less discount.
If they charge for it, and the punter is daft enough to pay the price, then it's a very nice profit earner for them.

The other downside is it's easily removed, especially if you mistreat the paintwork whilst washing it - those swirls are scratches, and the product is long gone at that stage, so you need to be fairly gentle about how you wash the car, rather than throw it into the nearest foreign handwash place or the automatic car wash.
Then you've to maintain the protection with their own monthly top-up product, and shampoo - if you're going to have to do that, you might as well just save the money/get a better option to clinch the deal, and buy a decent wax/sealant, and put it on yourself.

There's a number of products that will give good protection and looks which are spray-on, wipe-off, and a couple that are spray-on, walk away - if waxing and buffing is deemed too much hassle.

Thanks for the info; its not a deal clincher its an option he's been offered by the dealer - I told him that the dealer would be taking a healthy margin (prob 200%!) on the cost of product & labour; furthermore a professional detailer would likely deliver a higher quality of job for less £££. Sounds like I wasn't too far off the mark?
