The missus/i quite fancy a new bed. The missus is quite happy with another kingsize. Me, i quite fancy a super kingsize. The type you get in a hotel and can lie on without worrying who is on who's side etc. John Lewis do some but they are about £3 grand. Seems alot over a decent £1500 kingsize esp after you factor in new linen and duvet on top

Wonder if anyone had any suggestions on alternate suppliers - there must be some about, ebay show some for £1300! Thoughts?

No recomendations on suppliers really, as we got ours from lewis's too, just remember though the extra cost of all your bedding (sheets, duvets etc) they are maybe double the price of a king on average, also a LOT less choice as not all styles can be had in a super king. But it is well worth it, best bed i have ever slept in! so nice having all the room

We wanted exactly the same as you....we were after that hotel feel and found our perfect bed at Feather and Black.

We bought a Sleigh bed in Cherrywood as well as the matress. the matress we chose, had one half set at an 8 (firm for me) and then the other half was made as a 5 (medium for the missus) which gave her the 'sinking' feeling to the bed she was after and the firm for me due to back issues...

Not cheap but definately worth it. My back doesnt now ache every morning before getting up.

Mine came from Millside forge (now trading as Nights in iron)

Very happy with it, I spent quite a bit on the mattress as well though.

thanks for the links - prices are abit more reasonable but do also go highter.

Need to try a few i suppose - though Knights in iron (Somerset) is 130 miles away!

Litvinoff and Fawcett in Hackney.

Can't recommend them enough.

Their prices are pretty reasonable, and the matresses really are top quality (had ours 9 years now and it's still firm and comfortable).

They will also do customisations/special requests - when we bought our's we wanted a higher bed than normal and they were quite happy to accomodate.

Although they do mattresses up to 6 foot wide, they also appear to do custom width if you want even wider...

We got out bed for £650 from Dreams. Mattress was £450 on top of that I think. Bedding is expensive, but we wouldn't be without the space again, so definitely worth it.

We looked at John Lewis, they have beds from Vi-Spring, hand made and top of the range, but we eventually went to http://www.bedsareuzzz.com/ in Maidenhead and bought a higher spec super kingize Vi-Spring for a lot less money. IMO nothing else comes close.

Vi-Spring yes

Was our first bed, lasted for years.

We then made the mistake of going for something (Milbrook, IIRC) supposedly a better spec for the same money. Lasted no time at all, uncomfortable too.

Back on Vi-Spring again - nothing like it. If within your price range, buy one. If not, still consider buying a Vi-Spring matress to sit on another divan base.

Can highly recommend Dunlopillo. We bought a Memoir (circa £1,600 for a King Size Mattress) about 3 months ago and it's absolutley fabulous.

When I was young these used to be called Queen size beds, when did that change to the American name?

ETA
I take it back, I have just looked it up, a queen is in fact a King. Nope, makes no sense to me either. It seems in America you can get all sorts od sizes right up to 80", wow.

If you want something a little out of the ordinary try Bretz:

www.mycultsofa.com

I have no idea what Super Kingsize is (first time I've ever heard of that) but ours is 2m x 2m and is very comfy.
