So asks Mrs Branflakes this evening while watching U.S. Marshals.

"No idea" I reply. The rest of the conversation went something like this:

Mrs B - "Yes you do. We've both seen it. Or was it Christian Slater?"
Me - "Instead of Christian Bale?"
Mrs B - "Yes. Definitely Christian Slater."
Me - "What was it about?"
Mrs B - "Don't remember. Christian Slater was a policeman."
Me - "Are you sure Tommy Lee Jones was in it?"
Mrs B - "I think so. He might not have been. Christian Slater was though, although he might've been a bad policeman pretending to be good policeman."

Off I trundle to Imdb.com, knowing damn well that it'll annoy me until I find out. Imdb.com tells me that the only thing that both Tommy Lee Jones and Christian Slater appeared in was The 66th Annual Academy Awards. I tell her the bad news.

Mrs B - "What else has Christian Slater been in?"

I reel off a list of "classic" Christian Slater films. Each one receives the reply "No, not that one."

Me - "Can you remember anything else about the film?"
Mrs B - "Christian Slater and Tommy Lee Jones are policemen and they're trying to catch someone. Christian Slater isn't really a good guy and I'm not sure if Tommy Lee Jones is in it. Christian Slater definitely is though. They're trying to catch a black guy."

Then I realise.

Me - "Is the black guy actually a good guy even though they think he's a bad guy?"
Mrs B - "Yes! What film is it?"
Me - "US Marshalls."
Mrs B - "Has it got Christian Slater in it?"
Me - "No. It has got Robert Downey Jr. in it though."
Mrs B - "THAT'S him! Not Christian Slater! Oh look, he's in this film as well."

I'm sure it was your fault it took you so long to work it out too...

Mine got very annoyed at my response in this situation:

Her: Do Canada Geese emmigrate?
Me: No, they commute.

My mother is convinced that films don't start until the end of the opening credits, so she natters away through the credits and then spends the rest of the film asking what's going on 'cos she missed the vital bit of plot at the start biggrin
