Hi all, got this problem. I think it's both idler pullys squeeking very loud when cold and it over shadows the wortec pipes!! What can I do? I am sure I have read that changing the belts solves the problem or do I have to get the pullys replaced or kill the mice lol

Try a puff or two of talcum powder on the belts. If that stops the squeaking instantly then belts are the problem, if not it'll be the pulleys or bearings.

I think it's the pulleys themselves. Don't think the belts are slipping

As suggested, it will be either the belts or a pulley or two - or both!

Which ever it is, it will need renewing.

I've got the same problem, seems to only happen when the air is damp and stops after a couple minutes. I'm sure its the pulleys not the belt.

Mine drives me nuts somtimes. Used to be in damp conditions but now everytime its sunny and dry it squeeks above idle. It can start after a long journey too.
So far I've replaced the belts and the A/C idler pulley that I knew was making the noise and it shut up for about a week. Now I'm going to change the A/C tensioner pulley but unfortunately you don't get the pulley separate.

Oh and give the pulley you think is the culprit a quick careful spray with WD through the straw and see if it shuts up for a few mins. Try not to get WD on the belts.

The first thing I'm going to do is to kill them dam mice then change the belts as that only needs a 15mm ring spanner and see what happens. I know there is a lot of play in the ac. Idler pulley

Aye, mine had alot of play too. Think it was about 40 quid from monkfish.

A pair of belts is a cheap first step. Under a score if you get them form the right place.

I love this site!

I've got what sounds like a similar issue. Slipping belt like sound that occurs when the engine is cold shortly after startup. Immediately after start things are okay, then within a minute I get the sound which rises and falls with engine speed. After another 5 or so minutes it's gone.

You can hear it above the Wortec and it makes my car sound like a knackered f*rd escort. Once warm it's absolutely fine.

I'm assuming this fits the description people have mentioned? I'm mechanically inept sadly so I might have to leave this to the pros? Just to clarify, is there an easy way to confirm what, if any belt is slipping? I saw powder mentioned, do you just pour some in before starting the car?

i thought it was one of the pulleys but i went for the cheap option first. i have driven 20 miles or so and the squeek has gone.

Hi there,

Going to give this a try first too - where did you get the belts from and what did you ask for? Cheers
