I took advice from a few folks on here and have gone to BM for the Inspection 1 service.

All prices were in the Region of £675.

With a bit of bartering & playing them off against one another the following prices were obtained. (Mayb you can go better with these benchmarks!)

Douglas Park (Glasgow) - £640
Harry Fairbairn (Glasgow) - £621
John Clark (Aberdeen)- £621

Being based in Aberdeen makes john clarks the obvious choice, they need 4-5hrs and the car needs to be cold overnight for the tappets check. So i opted for them.

I'm sure they will stretch for high £500's or £600 on the button.

Hope this helps some of you in the future.

Ali.

Remember there's also Grassicks in Perth.

Dunno what they're like for servicing but I got a discount off the price of front discs (partly because I started to cry when they told me the full pricesmile)

John Clark charged me 725 for my Insp 2 on my E46 M3 in May this year

Can't fault the workmanship but I was surprised to find that it had not even been vacuumed or the wheels washed.

I got the inspection 1 on my Z4MC done for £430 a few months ago but only after playing the dealers off against each other. That was at one of the Douglas Park branches which I won't name as I don't want people demanding the same price and quoting me, however, I easily got other garages down to close to £500 and that's what you should be aiming at in my opinion.

As has been pointed out, there are plenty of dealers in Scotland looking for your business if your prepared to travel a bit.

Thanks for that Ali.

How do you go about bartering anyway?
With quote of £621 and someone saying you could get it for £500.
"Hello, I'd like a quote on Insp. 1 for a Z4M."
"£750"
"Can you do better than that? XYZ is doing them for £X"

I have just been quoted £720 for a inspection 1 & £960 for a inspection 2 for my E46 M3 at my local dealer, is this normal or is it because there is a bit of a gap between services

Yeh, exactly.

Unfortunately i'm between the devil and the deep blue sea. They need the car for 2 days and can't do it at the weekend. Aberdeen was my only 'real' choice...
