Flying to L.A. tomorrow...good nightspots?

Title pretty much says it all.

I have about three days there before I head for Vegas and want suggestions for some nice bars, decent, sophisticated places, good cocktails that sort of thing, although not extortionate prices. In the past I've only ever experienced rough places on sunset strip.

Any suggestions? Unique places would be good?

Admittedly I'm leaving tomorrow...perhaps should have started this thread a little earlier!

T'was a few years ago, but I hated LA! Sorry. Spent a few days there, and didn't venture anywhere twice. Are you anywhere near Santa Monica? right at the beginning of the pier there was a lovely bar/restaurant. I'd spend 3 days in there!

I'm fairly near Santa Monica yeah. I lived in LA for a short time a few years ago but didn't really do the whole night scene thing. The rooftop bar on top of The Standard hotel downtown looks nice -
