Yes, it's true.

Her: what do you want for lunch?
Me: a toastie will be fine.
Her: why the fk didn't you tell me there was no bread?
Me: huh?
Her: *THE MENTAL!!!!!!!!!!!*

later..........

her mum: you want me to get you and Papa_Hotel a pie?
her: yeah. i'll have a chicken one, Papa_Hotel will have a steak one.
later on the phone....
her mum: i think i gave you a haggis pie accidentally.
her: it's ok. *hangs up* i didn't want a fking haggis pie, i wanted a fking chicken pie. i've already had haggis this fking week why the fk would i want yet more fking sheeps guts?
me: you can have my steak pie.
her: i DON'T WANT your fking steak pie, i wanted a chicken pie. steak pie is not fking chicken, is it?
me: better than haggis though.
her: BUT IT'S NOT fkING CHICKEN!!!!! *THE MENTAL!!!!!!!*

I fear the mental is getting bigger. I now wear boxers to bed... the material might be thin but the symbolic protection it offers is a comfort to me.

I sometime do the same, for the same reason (mental, not pregnancy) but didn't realise why until I read your post!

Sorry, but I only get an hour for lunch and can't afford to eat in the Ivy every day. I suppose I could go the way of my colleagues and eat "curry" and chips every single day... would that make you happy? fk me, the food and lifestyle critics are invading, someone tell teh gramer natzies.

Uh oh.

Maybe I should be warey.

We're decorating the whole house at the moment; last night, she's up a ladder painting the wall but high near the ceiling while I'm wallpapering the other end of the room.

Me; "Oh, you only need to paint to about 3" right off the door, everything else right of that has had 2 coats already so is done".

Her; "THANKS VERY MCUH FOR DISTRACTING ME. Now I've got paint on the ceiling. All your fault".

The Mental.

I think the key to the mental, and this is gained over years of expeirnece, is the sheer irrelevance of importance. Something so miniscule, so utterly utterly devoid of any sort of importance can be escalated to something so very key to the mere fabric of our "relationship" and "future".

Exactly this. While you and I can differentiate between a compatibility problem and a difference of opinion, they can't. Depending on the time of the month, your choice of grilling a chicken breast or bunging it in the oven means the difference between a rock-solid relationship and one doomed to fail. Just wait til The Pregnancy Mental starts.

I better not get my OH pregnant then, here is a snippet of last night's conversation:

Her: Where did you put all the stuff in the recycling bin?
Me: [Expecting gratitude]In the recycling sack outside the front door, ready for collection tomorrow.
Her: What, even the tray and blackboard?
Me: No, I just emptied all the recycling stuff from the bin into the recycling sack and took it outside.
Her: I put the tray and blackboard in the recycling bin to keep them out of the way, now you've just put them out for the recycling collection!!!
Me: [Considers how this could possibly be my fault]
Her: [Growing angrier by the minute] Where did you put the half-full black bin bag that was outside?
Me: I emptied the bins into it and put it outside to be collected with the recycling.
Her: THAT WAS THE RECYCLING!!!
Me: [Considers whether the neighbours would be suspicious about me relaying a perfectly good patio]

PS: I'm eating my lunch whilst typing this, and I just sneezed and a small piece of cucumber shot out of my nose. How cool is that?

I hate to tell you this but in my experience the nuttiness takes about 18 months to 2 years after birth to fade.

During this period brains appear not to function at all!
