I recommend air from the planet earth.

I also recommend voting in the relevant thread http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I have actually, would you like me to remind you how much power my mods have added and what good value for money they are? Now running 14psi but I don't know how much it makes cos Mark won't tell me. He wants to wait until he brings the car back so I think he's pleased with the results.

Quoting from a place I had tyres fitted at years ago:
said:

Why Nitrogen?

Police forces across the country carried out roadside surveys to check tyre pressures
On average they found 75% of tyres checked had incorrect tyre pressures
Road Traffic Accident Statistics show that 86% of tyres have incorrect pressures
Tyres filled with Nitrogen will maintain their correct pressure for longer, because Nitrogen doesn't leak through the tyre's structure. Normal compressed air contains Oxygen and water vapour, both of which permeate through the tyre casing.
Filling with Nitrogen will provide

Better road holding
Longer tread life, up to 25% increase
Reduced fuel consumption, up to 5% reduction
No corrosion to the inside of the wheel

So there.

As I changed the model of tyres at the same time I cant say if the Nitrogen has made a jot of difference or not!

True and fair comment, but one of the things I love abuot this forum is how helpful and welcomming everyone is. Don't forget there are lots of noobs out there. Not just new car owners, but some that are not computer savvy that struggle with things like posting pics, or searching for FAQ's, so be nice.

The day that this forum fills up with pompous stuck up sarcastic pricks is the day I say goodbye. There are plenty of other forums full up with idiots. This one is like a breath of fresh air.

Speaking of air, I always find hot air is the best, that's why I get stiggy to talk into my tyre valves cos he's full of it

Of course you are right, we should be nice just saying it's a bit dull. Can't we talk about which dyno is best or discuss why superchargers are better than turbos?

+1

Absolute bks, (But great if you're selling all the nitrogen generating gear .;)

Now if you put Helium in there you might suffer from permeation.

One advantage you may get is no water vapour, as the nitrogen is likely to be dry.

Another might be that the inside of the casing is less likely to oxidise, but you'll wear them out before this is a problem.

Unless you are an out and out racer, or you get N2 free, don't bother.
