Currently have a 996 GT2 which I have had for nearly 2 years and love.

I have the chance to get into an 07 Manual Spyder in very good condition. The car has done 21k miles.

The price is very good and the car is immaculate.

I love the car and the attention is sometimes nice and other times not so much. The car handles lovely, has a great sound with the tubi and I am so very tempted.

The things I am not sure about:

Heavy clutch
Mileage is 21K high for this car?
I get the nagging feeling that the car may not be as robust as the Porsche.... how good are these engines? any failures?
Handbrake is rubbish
Spyder.... does the coupe handle a lot better?

Also can anyone confirm the service schedule and service pricing? £1k and £3k???

Lastly does anyone have an aftermarket warranty or can I put it back into warranty?

Thanks and sorry for so many questions!

You know my view on this. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

If the car is on it's orginal clutch then it may be on it's way out hence why it is stiff. However they are generally stiffer than the Porsche clutch, but 21k is fine for the engine.

The cars are robust many use them on a regular basis. I know a few owners who have had one for many years as a DD without issue, clutch go fairly quick if you a hard driver.

Cab is just as good as the coupe.

Handbrake is cack.

Servicing every 7500miles

No aftermarket warranty offered by Lambo yet.

Hey matey, hope you are well.

Should have known you would spy this thread!

Thanks for your input.

Whats a new clutch? 2k?

Good thanks.

I love Porsche but am also drawn towards Lambo's.

The clutch from Lambo iirc is around £4K and from Indies is half the price.

It shouldn't have a heavy clutch, my 997 C4S has a heavier clutch than the Gallardo.
21k is on the higher side, but it's still perfectly acceptable.
I've heard a few horror stories about reliability and I've seen the pictures of ones on fire, but I haven't had any issues.
Handbrake is useless, but just leave it in gear.

Mileage wouldn't put me off. Buy on condition and how it has been looked after. I think I'd rather have a well looked after/driven example, than a garage ornament. Just my opinion.

Mine is also slightly higher milage, but hopefully that means a lot of the niggles have been ironed out.

Clutch should be lightish, depends what you're used to though.

Clutch is £3k ish depending where you go

Hi Lee,

I`ve thought of this move a few times in the last few years.....obviously never went any further than thinking, stayed with Porsche and I suppose IMO let my head rule.
You know what you really want, but would you be happy with "JUST" a Gallardo and not a superleggera.
The same happens to the both of us with Porsche, 996TT`S, 996GT2`S and maybe 997GT3RS.

I`m sure you could pick up a stonking Porsche 997GT3RS in a choice of colour for around the £80,000 mark now, that to me is good value for a great car...

Have a good think over it before you make the jump.

Take care mate and all the best

Hi Lee i think we have mutual friends,I know the Gallardo you are talking about and it is a great car and great value however not sure a spider would be a good choice for an ex GT2 owner i was a little disapointed with the amount of body flex compared with my coupe. However if you do make the move into a lambo i dont think you will have to many complaints just try a coupe first.(just my opinion)

My Gallardo has done just over 40k miles and going strong. Regular used models are less problems than Garage Queens (so I hear). Reliable car, I drive it at least twice a week, if you need a clutch a main dealer would probably charge you about £7K, a specialist is about £2.5K, from my experience specialists are the way to go if you are budget conscious.

Warrantwise.com do a warranty......... at least i think thats what theyère called. Its Quentin Wilsons lot anyway. I have it on my G. around 2k per annum but i had an oil pump go which cost north of 3k. their site is good as you can frig around with the amount of cover and get instant quotes. Good Luck........... and stop thinking about if you should buy one................go and do it and then ask yourself why you took so long getting one :-)

Having owned a 997 GT3RS - whcih history aside - was a phenominal track car, with suprisingly acceptable ride quiality on the road - I think that the whole Lamborghini experience will be like turning the dial up to 11. If you get the chance - you should try it - and I'm sure that you'll not regret it.

You makes your choices....

Whatever you choose - Enjoy it!
