The paintwork on my Tuscan is pretty poor in places so I've decided on getting a respray. The car is currently a non metallic black so I'd like to go for something a bit more special!

I want to keep it black but want to add something to the paint to make it really stand out. I've seen one recently which had a metallic green added to it which you could only pick out in the sun. I'd really like to go for reflex charcoal but can't justify £800 a litre on paint. Are there any alternatives to this out there?

Any suggestions welcome, thanks

have a look at some of the House Of Kolor stuff. They do loads of additives and effects etc. Doesn't come cheap but it's very good. One example of the millions available can be seen in my profile pic.

I saw a very nice Cerb yesterday at Track v Road that used to belong to the ex-Drivestyle HC paint guy. It had a multi coloured effect in the black which looked fantastic in the sun.

I don't know where you are in the country but he has now apparently set up on his own in Knaresborough so may be worth a call to find out what he used.

Magpie,

Have a word with surface and design in Blackpool, they recently did a Chim respray for a German chap- it was black with a small amount of spectraflair, the result was fantastic and a very subtle change until in the sun, when the spectraflair comes into play.

I have a pic somewhere if you PM me i'll send it over.

Cheers,

James

I will try and get one that shows the effect but it wont be easy!

In normal light when clean it looks metalic black, when the sun is directly on it larger blue coloured flakes appear but its still black if that makes sense. Nothing like the above tho, if the sun is not directly on it and your not really paying attention it looks pretty normal metalic black.

ive no idea how much it costs though....

page 11 of readers cars,my tvr350c and lotus elise s1 thread has a few pictures, but not close enough to really see the sparkle. might give you an idea of it though.

SP automotive said £2500 will change the cars colour to moonraker.

Mine is reflex so the colour change is a lot cheaper, but i fear the black may look too ordinary?

Surface & Design are the people to see & speak too they are fully colour changing my Ultima GTR, from Red to Reflex Charcoal, it's not £800 a litre. I had a Reflex Charcoal Sagaris which I recently sold but can not live without the colour...

How much are they charging for the colour change? What's the price per litre if you don't mind me asking as that is my ideal colour but all the stories of £800 a litre soon put me off!!
thanks

yes id love to hear the price and where to get the genuine ICI reflex colours.

Ive been quoted £800 a litre frown

Ive looked at other options, but really would prefer the genuine paint.

The colour change for a Tuscan would cost a lot less than my Ultima due to the surface area being a lot less with the Tuscan, I dont know what the price for a Tuscan would be. However, my car has been stripped clean of all components prior & is a shell on a chassis. In addition, the prep work on an Ultima is borderline unreal due to the existing gel coat. The paint is around £600 a litre & I need 3 far less for a Tuscan.

Reflex Charcoal is my favourite colour for a car especially a TVR & is well worth the outlay & is I believe one of the best colours for a Tuscan to show it's unique amazing lines the colour change in different lights during the day from dusk till dawn truly is astonishing...

I would speak to Andy at Surface & Design. He's a real nice guy too & they all really know there stuff there, plus the work I have seen them complete over the years is second to none that is why they are sorting my Ultima.

Finally, their premises is in the old TVR factory which is good to see as it is being partially used again.

Hope that helps you a bit.

Shaun

No probs, I will send you both some photo's when my Ultima is completed At Surface & Design within the next three weeks or so, which will show the quality of their workmanship & finish. There is a photo on my profile of my Sagaris that I recently owned just after being detailed, in Reflex Charcoal.
