As the nights draw in its that time of year when I need something to look forward to. This year six of us are planning to go away either xmas week or new year week skiing. There will be two beginners in the group so we need a snow sure resort with plenty of greens and blues.

In the spirit of PH the trip will of course include a road trip down there with a night stop, so its accommodation only.

Does anybody have experience of Les 2 Alpes or Alpe D'huez? Both seem good value and ideal for beginners but I heard from a few people that L2A was full of English yobs? Does anybody have experience of this resort.

Any other suggestions, recommendations and info on where I can book accommodation-only places is appreciated.

i have skied both les duex and alpe duez. alpe duez is the bigger resort and the one i would reccomned. lots of good slopes for beginners and intermediates and there is glacier skiing if there really is poor snow.

limited blacks although they do have a few crazy ones off the top of the glacier called the Sarenne and le tunnel - a little crazy - you ski through a old minning tunnel.
Apres ski in both was lively but then that tends to be because i go with a rather large group smile

In true pistonheads sprit you could try and coincide it with a round of the andros trophy at alpe duez (ice racing)
