undelivered packages Royal mail

Can anyone advise. a ebay tosser has informed my son that a item has been returned to him as not delivered, (returned by Royal mail) as not collected from post office after they left a note. However the date was Monday this week, as we have not had a note and the guy says he has had it returned . Don't the Post office keep packages for 7 days before returning to sender ?

Your post doesnt make a lot of sense to me, but I dont understand why this makes the guy an 'eBay tosser'

Why not just message the seller and arrange for it to be redelivered? I imagine if its your fault for not collecting you'll have to pay the couple of quid for his postage again though.

I agree with Kitch88. Why would this make the ebay seller a tosser ? If anyone is at fault here it's either yourself or the Royal Mail.

Kitch's advice is also valid and suspect your reply is on the sarcastic side.

Moving on from the previous posters that seem to be missing your point, yes the post office should keep your delivery for 7 days before returning it to the sender, so if the guy from ebay is giving you grief in less than 7 days then either the post office has cocked up, or he's being a tosser.

You should have one of those red delivery cards left telling you where they are holding your parcel. If you haven't got one of these either your hosehold has lost it, the post office didn't leave one or the bloke from ebay land hasn't posted it.

100% on Royal Mail if they didn't leave a card. No way can the situation as described reflect badly on the seller!

What type of postage did you pay for? Royal Mail will keep it for seven days if it was recorded, if it was standard or special delivery they'll keep it for three weeks.

If you like you could go to your local delivery office (not post office) and enquire, they keep records of every package returned. This might help narrow down your possibilities if you're unsure.

Royal Mail keep Signed-For recorded delivery packages for 1 week before returning to sender. Normal packages are kept for 3 weeks.

Many thanks for that, it was sent recorded, my point was according to the sender it was sent and then returned to him within a 3 to 4 day period, which seemed unlikely. Our local delivery office is extremely helpful and our postman lives just down the road and he has no recollection of leaving a (you were out note).

The reason I posted this was for informed opinion which you have given, many thanks.

If it was sent recorded delivery then tell him you want the tracking number for the last attempt before you pay again for postage. Sounds like he's trying to get two lots of postage fees from you.

Ah the magic of PHers eBay advice. It's certainly helped me out a few times. OP; wait a few days and see what happens, if you get more st from this guy then go to eBay/PayPal, normally the threat gets your item there quicker. If he goes all lone ranger on you then again, escalate it. That's all I can add to the discussion I'm afraid; good luck.

If it was sent recorded the seller will have a tracking number for it, ask him, also it should be on a system so you should be able to ask royal mail if they did have anything/ask your postman...however it's very doubtful.

1) You never actually had a note through the door
2) He's saying it's come back to him after 3-4 days, when the post office always keep things for up to a week, and usually more, they rarely go by what the card says and send it back as early as a week. I once sent a parcel that was left at the P.O for about a month before it was picked up...

I'd say you can be pretty sure he is in fact being a tosser and has not sent anything. Put in a dispute with paypal & ebay if a week has passed since the item was paid for
