Hope i can get some info from you guys.
I went in to a shop today wanting a samsung 42" 1080p tv, As we walked through the door there was a 46" for the price i wanted to pay £600 we asked about it but got told that because it was lcd it was not very kid freindly and the pictures were not very good on lcd`s. We started looking at panasonic plasma ones but we got put of by been told not to watch the same program for to long if it had a symbol as it would burn the screen. Think im back to lcd`s now.
I want a 42" lcd panasonic that i can watch motor racing on and have a good quality picture. What model should i go for ?? Im confused with the whole thing about tv`s now.
Thanks in advance smile

Do a search on here there is loads on this subject.

Plasma is better at Standard Def than LCD

The 'Burn' issue is not an issue on modern Plasmas.

At 42" Plasma is still king

Don't know why LCD isn't considered very 'kid friendly' as Plasma is more likely to be effected by kid's TV channels with logos (though that seems to be a non issue on modern plasmas anyway). TBH, I'd just choose the TV you like and not worry about the tech behind it.

Was in a similar situation to you a month or so back. It's fairly confusing, as I haven't kept remotely up to speed with what's on offer.

I got a good deal, and came away with a 42" Panasonic 1080p plasma. Seems like plasma is king, and I was assured that the burn issues are rare now, moreso on modern kit. I've had mine pretty much on all day, news channels more often than not, with no issues.

I guess you get a bigger set for your buck with LCD. I'm sure I would have been happy with either (I'm not a seasoned TV expert), just happened to get the plasma for the same cost of the LCD one.

You'll be fine with either. I have noticed that plasma seems to give a much wider viewing angle, which is great, given the shape of our living room.

The tv im wanting is a panasonic tx-l42510B but its only 50hz but ive read that if you watch sport you need 100hz or you get a trail of something going fast (i.e. a football etc) Any views or info on weather this is right or just on the older tv`s ??

Sfunny, I bought an LCD when my kid was younger as I thought it was the safer option, but more due to screen burn issues. Lucky he didn't poke my TV then eh? I still reckon you should choose which TV you like and not be too swayed by the tech behind it. My current living room set is a couple of generations old mid range Sony and I bought it when it had become discontinued at a good discount; I've calibrated it using a colourimeter and turned down the backlight to an appropriate level. The picture is still pretty good even though I could buy a much more advanced model for the same price I paid, I don't tend to find myself sat here thinking " what a crap picture". It might help that I feed it 1080p upscaled externally using a good video processor, but even the built in tuner picture is respectable. I think it's hard to buy a really crap set these days unless you insist on paying peanuts for your TV, but that's just IMHO and you wouldn't find me saying the same thing about projectors for example.....
