1997 1.3 mpi mini, 13,000 miles. After maybe 10 / 20 minutes or 1 hour of driving there is suddenly no power / revs and the engine cuts out. Happens randomly, traditionly when in the fast lane of the M1. Turning the engine on again & everything is fine. Whats that all about! I've no idea - anyone had this before?

To be honest the mpi's are basically as any modern car in the sense that its mainly electrical. We (Cooperman and I) tend to keep clear of them as we are more mechanical. You should find that any Bosch services will have a diagnostics machine and it will tell you straight away.

If it was an older mini I'd have said check out the fuel tank vent pipe. They used to have a habit of becoming trapped and and not letting air into the fuel tank, leading to fuel starvation and engine stop.
Start up after a few minutes when the tank has refilled with air, and repeat......
