I'm renovating my house at the moment, and have a really old garage that needs pulling down and rebuilding.

It's the green thing on the left:

Anyway, if I pull it down I would have about 17ft towards the left where i would build the new garage, off the out-house on the right.

So is 17ft enough width to build a double garage? I would attach it to the building on the right, make it out of the same stone, and try and build it the same height so the roof can just follow the one that's already there.

Thanks in advance

Depends what you want to put in it. A RR Phantom is 6 1/2 feet wide so you should be ok if you've got 17 feet to play with wink

I'd imagine the average double garage width of a new build to be quite a bit less than 17 feet.

I've just had one built which is 20'(wide) x 16'(deep).

I would say 17' is plenty big enough.

It's just barely big enough. That's slighty smaller than your average 'developer' double garage, though, which most people will tell you isn't really big enough to be truly functional.

17ft is around 5.18m the minimum standard parking bay is 2.4m so yes you could but will be quiet tight. I normally try allow a minimum internal dimension of 6m for a double garage.

Haha, this week I arr been mostly eating...

That photo is a year old - the building on the right is now renovated into an office, and the weeds are now gone from the drive.

Thanks for all the replies - As for what i'd be parking there it's hard to say. It most certainly wont be a RR Phantom, more likely to have a trackday car project in there, and in a year or two it will house the 360 or 911 that I'll have by then. I fancy an Ultima eventually, so that kind of thing really.

I don't need space for push bikes etc, as we have another outbuilding for all the bits and bobs, so the garage would just be for cars and tools.

Glad to hear it's possible - I don't mind if it's a tight fit - I'll just make sure my other half doesn't ever park anything in it!

What's an average depth for a double garage? I've got no limits on the depth really, so Will make it a bit deeper so I can have benches and tools along the back wall.

Thanks again

OT slightly, but what's the standard internal of a developer single garage?

'Standard' developer garages vary sligntly from one developer to another, but the normal minimum depth is about 5.2m (17'0") external.

As above, they vary, but the normal minimum is 2286mm/7'6"
