Hi all,

I finally took the plunge and bought my first Noble - which I am loving.

It's a 52 plate GTO with 16.5k on the clock.

It needs a bit of TLC and a few niggles taking care of, which I'd really appereciate any help with:

1. How do I replace the warning light bulbs in the centre console?
2. Both reverse lights dont work so I am thinking the switch. Does anyone know where this is located?
3. Coincidentally the gearlever is loose (maybe this is affecting the reverse lights working)not the know, the whole lever. Does anyone know how these tighten. If I remove the gear lever surround, can I just tighten it?

Any help would be most welcome.

Thx.

For #3, if you mean the gear stick feels like it's not connected to anything and wobbles about, even when in gear, then that's a case of TADTS.

That does not sound right then. I was think about the first drive I drove a Nob, I thought the knob was going to come off in my hand ( oe-er missus ! ). I actually said to the salesgadgy "Is it attached ?" to which he replied "That all do that sir" ( I may have imagined that bit ! ).

Not quite the case, mine used to get lose and feel like it was all over the place until one day it got to the point I could only jut get a gear.

Remove the plastic bit from the gear leaver surround and tighten up the 3 or 4 (can't remember) bolts that hold the leaver mechanicis to the center tunnel. Mine had an ali plate that was cracking so I had one made out of St STL and loctited the bolts. This was about 2yrs ago and its still fine.

I too am new to the world of Nobility having only had mine for 2 weeks - but loving it. best thing i ever did was trade in the 996 carerra 2 for an M12 GTO.Whilst i havent had the delights of driving some of the top end porsches eg GT3 etc, i do know that i find the Nob far more direct into the corners, a better ride and generally faster than the porsche. Whilst i appreciate Richard Hammonds views and love of teh 911, he really ought to get his mits on a Nob and see what it can do in comparison !

Welcome to the Nobility Mike. Sadly, the M12's seats don't go forward enough for the Hampster biggrin

Noble parts have a step by step instruction regarding center panel. Also have you checked the bulbs. I only say this because maybe one had gone and the previous owner thought one was enough and now the last one has gone?

M12 GTO 2.5L Reversing Light Switch.

For the MTX-75 5 speed Gearbox.

Ford Pt No. F1441361
Ford Base Pt No. XS4T-155520-AB

Price £8.25 (VAT £1.24)

Total £9.49

Located on the left side of the engine bay, on the upper section of the gearbox. There will be a corroded plug attached (common problem) a 22mm socket will remove the switch and if the plug is still intact reconnect. Its simple to make a new plug if the old ones knackered, as its a 2 pin arrangement, no polar. the plug connects into the loom approx 8" from the switch end with spade connectors.

Thanks guys - thats really helpful and gives me some areas to focus on next.

I have signed up to Noble parts: just waiting for the account to be set active so I can see how to remove the centre panel (I only found out that this existed during the course of today)

The reverse light switch is mounted on the shift tower of the transmission. On the cars that I've worked on, the correct connector isn't used between the switch and the wiring harness - instead, two quick disconnect tab connectors are crimped onto the wiring harness and just stuck onto the pins on the reverse switch. This makes a poor connection which quickly corrodes, usually resulting in the pins snapping off the switch. The best fix is (once you've replaced the switch with a new one) to wire in the correct connector into the wiring harness, if you can find a source for it. If you can't get the correct connector, I usually solder a pigtail onto the pins on the switch, insulate the joints with shrink tubing, and pot the connection with epoxy so it's watertight. Put a weather proof connector (like a Deutsche or a Weatherpack) on the end of the pigtail, and put the mating side on the wiring harness.

Before you yank apart your center console, be sure and check the fuse for your dash lighting - if I remember correctly, shorting out the leads going to the reverse light switch will blow this fuse (I think it's fuse number 9 in the front fusebox - at least it is on the M400 and 3R in the States...)

About the shifter - is there any vertical movement if you pull the lever straight up and down? If there is, examine where the shifter mounts to the tunnel of the car. It could be that the bolts holding the shifter mount have loosened up. Or, it could be that the top of the tunnel has fatigued and cracked.

Please excuse the stupid question, but where is the shift tower on the car - can I reach it from the engine bay?

Do you have I picture so I know what I'm looking for?

Thanks for all your help.

Never heard it called a "shift tower" but look on top of the gearbox (nearside rear) to where the selector cables meet up on the H-type plate. The reversing switch is thereabouts and is easy to locate.
