Hi all,

I'm currently running a Porsche 997 C2S Coupe and I'm going to change my car in March. After having a look around I've realised that for the same money as a new/very nearly new C2S/C4S Cab you can pick up a low mileage F430 Spider F1 on about a 55/06 plate.

This raises quite a few questions for me in terms of running costs. I've heard a few horror stories about 360's being money pits and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the service intervals/costs are for F430 Spiders. I've read that the cam belt change that was an issue on 360's is not so much a problem on 430's as they use cam chains instead of belts which last much longer. Is this true?

Also, am I right in thinking that the F1 clutch is much more hardwearing on a 430 than a 360?

It's an itch that needs to be scratched and I may only run it for a year or so (depending on how well I get along with it) and then move back to Porsche if running costs are proving to be a problem.

I would be using it as a daily driver but I only commute 1200 miles a year. Journey to work is 5 miles there and back. Do you think it's feasible to run one as a daily driver given the low mileage I will be doing?

The other question that I have is, when they start getting to 5 yrs old is there anything to take into account such as engine rebuilds/clutches etc. I'm used to the nice 2 year service intervals on 997's and I know the running costs of a 430 will be higher - but I'd just like an idea of how much higher.

The last issue is residuals. I'd like to think the F430 has taken most of it's hit. I've lost £37k on my current car in 2.5yrs but I'd be very surprised if the F lost anywhere near that as the main chunk of depreciation would have taken it's toll before I acquired it. Any comments on this?

Any advice and information anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated. Especially from people that have made the switch from a 997 to a F430, if there is anyone about.

Sorry there's so many questions but after looking through the forums it seems there are a lot of people here with a wealth of knowledge and it seems like a good first port of call!

Thanks in advance

James
