crazy pod readings

So I had a five hundred mile round trip this weekend (London to Devon and back) in the new tuscan, the car drove faultless! Except on the drive home when I was stuck in loads of traffic (A303) the water temp jumped from 90-95 degrees to 199 degrees in seconds (warning code came up on screen) but fans cut in as they should and the oil pressure would jump from normal to 0 psi but the car drove perfect. There must be a fault somewhere as the car would go bang at 199 degrees, right?

Any suggestions?

On the way down (no traffic) the pod behaved itself the reading stayed consent, it was only on a very hot way back the readings where jumping around.

I had the same thing happen recently, temp peaked very quickly at 128 degrees c, when we plugged the diagnostics pc in it showed that the Tusc temperature hadn't been above 100 degrees c. Seems to be a regular pod fault but maybe we should wait for other PHers to confirm. Did you check your coolant level after the run?

When i'm stuck in traffic and things get hot sometimes the oil pressure seems to drop to 0psi,1psi, 2psi etc but again i don't think it is anything but the pod throwing an eppy.

If in doubt plug her in and see what the ECU says..

You could do worse than give Heath Briggs a ring at xworks. They are connected with Paul Smith who repairs all TVR electronics. I think he lives close by to them and uses them as a post box. Anyway, they are dead helpful about this sort of thing I found. Esp if they have seen if before. Not that I know anything useful or concrete, but I would suspect it's a heat issue with the POD ECU itself. Paul has a heat gun to simulate heat on electric boxes when testing them. HTH.

I had exactly the same things happen with mine - turned out to be be a crack in the main 100amp fuse, arcing across the crack is what caused the problems. Fuse replaced - all better.

Which fuse is the 100 watt fuse, can't see it on the diagram?

Neither do i, but STR8-6 do. As would any of the TVR specialists/main dealers..

Found it, it's the one under the breather box! Just ordered the extra strong 125 amp fuse! Should fit it at the weekend.

It's a good idea to get a spare to keep in the boot too.

After a great sunday service at Rolls-Royce I finally fitted my new 125 amp fuse! I still have the problem of the pod going crazy and i've tracked it down to this. When I click on the fans for heating in the car the pod readings start jumping around and when I turn the fans off it settles back down again. Anyone got any clue to what could be wrong?

If not it's going in for the annual service next month and i'll have a word with the guys then. Thanks again, Mr C

Give the heater fan new minus cable seperately,
looks like bad line for minus!

The heater ECU connector is a notorious problem.

You could try twisting the connector on the heater ECU (black box with small fins under the dash on the passener side), with the heater fan on and see if that temporarily cures the pod display.
