Poker night with the lads - need some inspiration

It's my turn to host our monthly poker night next (this will be the 5th time we've played) and I need some good ideas to liven things up a bit, or some neat touches.

Firstly, cocktails - I'm pretty clueless. What's good and won't cost a fortune?

Snacks - bored of crisps. Need something nice, easy and ideally, impressive! I'm thinking either a trip to waitrose or make something. Would rather make it tbh.

Sweets - big bowl of sweets went down well last time so I'll stick with that.

Any other ideas? What do other people do when they play poker with the lads?

Topless waitresses serving cocaine have been discussed but the idea shelved due to recruitment problems.

Twiglets, rice crackers, pretzels, salted cashews, cheese twists.

How impressive do you want to go?

why cocktails when beer (belgium stuff) and few bottles of spirits should suffice?

What about bruschetta, some home made buffalo wings, tear and share home made bread (flavoured)?

Sweets are good.

Me and my mates used to just buy in several crates of beers, loads of pizza, some decent music on just to get rid of silence when not speaking... then as most people who play poker smoke, several packets of cigs and cigars...

Our games lasted 8+ hours and vistors would be gagged by the beer/smoke/pizza smell if they visted us on the night in question.

Maybe, but each time we play, the host (so far at least) has introduced something that new that went down well, and is now adopted by the next host. That's what happened with the cocktails, so they're now mandatory!

LOL - I was just thinking that I'm making this poker session sound like a camp-fest! It's not, I assure you! So far the cocktail thing has just been a case of having a nice cocktail when everyone turns up, then it's beer, crisps and cards for the rest of the night.

1 x bottle of good bourbon
Ice

Apply bourbon to glass and add ice if required.

Snacks:

Ribs and hot wings

For dessert

Box of Havana's finest.

Snack idea:

Buy a tub of Philidelphia light.

Press it out of the tub so that falls neatly out as one block on to the middle of a crips and dips dish.

Pour liberal amounts of sweet chilli sauce over it so that it pools around the edge. Serve cold and surround it with Rice crackers or a spicy tortilla-style crisp.
