Anyone with an E46 coupe please be aware. Do not drop your mobile phone (or anything else small that you value) on the floor in the rear.
There are two heater/aircon ducts that are just the right size to swallow up these types of things. Were they to simply trap such devices there would be bad enough, but the void extends a long way and can prove very tricky to extricate said items. Took mine to local dealer.

I keep two small daughters for such tasks. They've proven invaluable inside TVR doors hehe

I had heard the running costs were high, but didn't realise that was the reason.

I'm hoping to Ebay them off to promising young doctors or barristers once they're fully grown.

Sweet lord!

You should have taken that to an independent, it's just taking apart and putting back together trim at the end of the day, or maybe a Car Hifi place as they take apart interiors all day every day and probbably charge less money per hour.

exactly the same happened to a friend of mines iphone, so we tried accelerating hard up a hill, then tried reversing fast and braking hard, tried the vacuum cleaner, tried a slim jim type thing, all to no avail. in the end we took off the pieces of trim and took the seat out and had to cut a slit in the plastic vent to get it out. taped it up and its all fine now.

stupid, stupid design. drop something valuable and its a pain to get out.

cant believe the £155 bill you got though it took 2 of us complete beginners with the wrong tools about an hour max in the end and most of that time was spent trying to work out what the hell we were doing.

i think they pulled your pants right down.

Yes,how ridiculous of the designer to design the part to direct air around the car when the original remit of the design was blatantly "make it easy to get dropped valuables and mobile phones out".

Based on that theory, if You drop Your valuables down a storm drain then the storm drain is a stupid design as it should be much easier to retrieve Your dropped items. rolleyes

I had exactly the same thing happen in my E46 3-er Touring.

My phone hadn't totally disappeared down the vent and I managed to extract it with a bent coat hanger or similar after first removing the NSF seat.

Remove seat, extricate phone and re-fit probably did take 1 hour. From memory, I think I paid myself a Stella when the job was done. hehe

(but it was a bit of a waste of an hour of my life that I won't get back)
