Boot release

Had the dreaded non opening boot this weekend, got in easily using the "emergency" method. The bowden cable had broken and after a trip to a motorcycle dealer found a cable to fit. I'm curious why it uses an inner bowden cable, the distance from the solenoid to the release lever isn't long, is quite straight and direct. Has anyone experimented with a rod connection as an alternative, I would have thought a short length of welding rod suitably bent to locate in the holes would work and not break?

Thought about that a while back, that or just moving solonoid over a little.

I also have a small lenth of strimmer cable attached now, which I can access without doing the emergency method

My boot was stuck shut when I bought my Griff !!!
I eventually got it open with a bit of ingenuity and a length of wire.

To prevent it from happening again I have replaced the motor with a proprietry bonnet release cable....No more problems for me!!!

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought about strimmer string as fall back, I was going down the thin bowden route.

The emergency route didn't take more than a couple of mins so wasn't the end of the world.

Think I'll run a cable as a backup then change to a rod and see what happens. Must be worth a try at least.

Maplins sell a compatible boot release solenoid for the Griff, this comes with a chrome rod and it is intended for connecting the solenoid to the release lever. Found it works well and of course won't break.

Similar units available off eBay at less than £5 including delivery.
