I don't think the stock engine is limited by the throttle body but more tha cams.

Also on the vxr8 it's a drive by wire throttle so arbitarily changing this can mean the engine may not run optimally. You'd need to make sure this is combined with a mapping session.

whilst briefly reviewing this site one may get the idea that blindly changing stuff adds power you will find that best results come from understanding and research.

For example: Do you know what the stock throttle airflow capability is? Do you know what the engine requires? Do you know where the bottlenecks are?

In summary I doubt you will see any gains from a throttle swap. The stock ls2 intake is a much bigger resrtiction to the intake side.

Head to sites like ls1tech.com and hardcorels1.com weed through a little mess and you will find the worlds best builders and racers of lsx engines post up hints and tips all the time. The answers are all there.

It depends. For the standard car the TB is not a restriction, especially on the 6.0L 90mm version. On highly modified machines like mine it becomes a problem which is why mine was swapped to the PWR version.

If you have an LS1, look at cam and heads first. If it's an LS2, replace the cam but the heads are pretty good. As Richard says, it depends on your desired power level. Each part is limited to what it can do so build it as a package of parts which work together.

Which engine?

Essentially yes it can, but it might not on an otherwise stock engine.

The LS1 variants should have had the LS6 type intake manifold, but I think the TB is the same size as an Fbody or C5 Corvette at 78mm which is the same size as the intake manifold inlet.

Porting these can free up hp and improve throttle response. The manifold is good though. Fitting a bigger tb however doesn't really do much as the hole in the manifold is no bigger.

The LS2 engine uses a different manifold and a 90mm TB. This TB can also benefit from porting. I've read mix reviews on this intake manifold, as a rule its accepted as not being as good as the old LS6 type, but on the right setup can perform better.

No point in swapping TB's on these.

If you want the best look at FAST intake and manifold, either 90/92 or 92/92 setup.

These will produce HP although you'll see the most gains when you combine them with a cam and head work.

Google Texas Speed and Performance and take a look at what they offer.

A Pontiac GTO is the same car basically.

However tuning depends on what you want to do with the car. If you plan on boost of some kind then swapping TB's is really a waste of money unless you are aiming at headline HP numbers.

If you plan a n/a build then exhaust (as in long tube headers) would be a better starting point. Then moving onto looking at cams and CAI.

Dont whatever you do bother to do any research yourself otherwise you might learn something.
There are back to back dyno's of full race setup 7+L engines with 102mm vs 90mm throttlebodies.

yep I can believe on a 7l race engine it's make a difference. On a stock LS2 probably not so, certainly not the best hp/£ anyhow.

It also depends what the op is after. Spending £4k on a blower kit will give them a huge boost in HP. Another £1k+ on a new intake and manifold would only give them a fraction of the HP gain of the blower and unless they go everywhere at WOT possibly wouldn't get the benefit.

You guys are lucky anyway, I've only got the original LS1 type intake on my LS1 which sucks compared to an LS6 type.

Your belief is in the main wrong. Gains are pitiful at best all things else being equal.

ok now I admit I'm lost....

So are you saying tb/intake changes only offer small gains?

The thread is about TB changes on an LS3.

There is no point changing it based on airflow requirements even on a much larger higher performance engine.
But I suggest you ignore everything I say like most people do and verify this independantly, hence why I said read up elsewhere.
Porting the stock throttle to optimise airflow and remove imepdiments to flow would result in the same or better gains IMO.

didn't realise the op had an LS3, it doesn't say in their post (or if it does I missed it rolleyes lol ).

Afraid I don't know much about them. I agree tb size and intake are often over rated, hence my praise for the LS6 type smile

Yeah also Monaro's and VX Holdens onwards have LS6 intakes.. until the LS2 ones.

I'm running 97 Octane which doesnt actually make a chuffs difference

LS3 out of the box is about as good as a manufacturer getting it right at release gets. No rich still not done that logging yet, will do it and post results as I'm interested in seeing what the restriction is or how close to 100kPa I can get on WOT

Hey stig the newest version fixes the error code on the dash when you connect the scanner!
BBR is in RC now too. (Special acronyms for you guys)
