50", 1080p, £1200ish-which one

I've decided to treat myself and buy a new TV. Currently have a 50" tv, so got to have one at least that size.
Been looking at various forums and the plasma/LCD debate still rages. It's an absolute minefield and just don't know which way to go. A quick trawl of the web and a Panasonic TX-P50G10B has caught my eye. Can be had for around £1100.
Suggestions, recommendations and reviews most welcome.

My only concern is that plasma TVs seem to be on the way out. Have all the screen burn problems of previous sets been sorted. Are there any other precautions that should be followed. The kids have a Wii and an Xbox 360, will they cause any problems on the set.

When I saw your title, I came here to recommend the Panasonic G10B - I've just bought (it arrived on Saturday!) the 42, and am absolutely over the moon with it.
It was well recommended by both Der and Plotloss, and having bought through Der like I say I'm over the moon with it.
Apparently modern plasmas are very good indeed and so the argument that one is worse than the other is old.
Really, I'm over the moon with my 42 and, like I say, on seeing your title I just knew which to reccomend!

Plasma only seems to be on its way out if you base your synopsis on the fact Pioneer have quit selling theirs - Panasonic invested about 18 months ago, a huge amount of money to bring yet another plasma manufacturing plant online, and both Samsung and LG make plasmas, still.Are there any LCD worth considering.
There's more profit from making an LCD TV, so that's why many manufacturers (years and years ago) knocked their plasma offerings on the head.
Plasma is still the current king of TV/Home Cinema, but there are some LCD's that are running them close - the JVC DV1 for example.
As for screenburn - provided you're sensible with the settings, you can run whatever you want through them forever and a day, and you'll have nothing to worry about. You may get temporary image retention, but that's easily sorted with watching another channel (if a channel logo image) or if you have an old VCR, that's connected but not got an aerial in it. The 'snowy' (white noise) picture will rectify any TIR issue in a matter of minutes.
2 years with a Panasonic 37PX70, and numerous hours of Halo/Gears Of War later, there's yet to be even one instance of TIR - and the picture has been bright enough alright.
So don't let those uneducated, convince you Plasma has inherent weaknesses or flaws - it's the other way round!

I've decided the 50G10B is the one for me. However, I've heard mentioned that there is a standard 5 year warranty for Panasonic TVs since 1st October. However, most stores (both high street and online) don't seem to be offering it or claim not to know anything about it!
