..on used prices, or so it seems.

Second hand prices have taken a substantial hit for October (all models) whereas all the other quality motors (RS4, M3, RR supercharged)have seen an increase.

OK if you're trading in your crapmobile I suppose.

Was inevitable as they have been staying the same or going up for a good while.

But then again the Monaro has take a similar hit this month and no silly new deals on those, good old supply and demand working its magic.

Its called inflation, caused by printing money like toilet paper and treating it the same. Soon it will be £10 a roll and the Ethiopians will be buying up Knightsbridge with cattle as a medium of exchange. Vote for labour, they'll see us through. vomit

I used wewillbuyyourcar.com as a rough guide before I bought mine in August.

They are now offering only £250 less for October than they did two months ago.

If anything the available used cars are more expensive now than last two months ago, I've seen no evidence of a price crash for October.

nobody ever ever gets what wewillbuyyourcar originally offer.

"oh look theres a stone chip on the underside -1000 quid"
"some brake dust here in the wheels -1000 quid"
"these wipers look USED -1000 quid"

Glasses guide has yet to be updated and is showing for my old 2007 57 LS2 VXR8 19,650 however I managed to get 23k part ex so was quite happy about that !

Although it may be a relatively rare car, I think it's unrealistic to compare the depreciation of top-end sports models from prestige brands with the prices of Vauxhalls. A Vauxhall will never retain the same value as an M3 or RS4, it's simple badge snobbery and demand at play here.

That said, now that the supply of manual VXR8 has ceased, prices of manuals at least seem to be solidifying at least as the supply is exhausted.

If you worry about depreciation, don't buy a Vauxhall...

Mart.

Certainly not a price crash by any means just the first time they have gone down this year.

Its not October yet so we buy any car bks probably wont have been updated yet.

You're right of course 08 M3 79%, VXR8 68%. But it seems unfair that our beloved V8s have been singled out this month (and I've got to fork out 405 sovs for the privilege of driving same tomorrow)!

If you look at £'s rather than %'s VXR8's depreciate far less than BMW's. I'd have to give away my VXR8 to loose as much as I did on an M5.

Exactly well put, your BMW being worth 60% after 3 years for example but costing £80k new or whatever they do is still a lot of bloomin money to lose!
Cars being worth high %'s are great but when they cost daft money it doesnt add up.

I think it's related to fuel duty, petrol has gone up again so the demand for thirsty motors goes down. Anyway, who cares what your car is worth? Only a fool buys one as an investment and they cost sod all to start with compared to the RS4 or M3.

Keep hearing mixed reports about them, some get what they are offered some don't.
Depends how accurate they are with the original details I guess, I've never dealt with them myself so I don't speak from personal experience.

Not that I'm planning to be selling it anytime soon, one of the few cars that I've owned where the novelty has not worn out after the first month, I just like to keep an eye on what it's worth.smile

It was a new car and doubt that much - I know the people there and they are gtting hammered by the manufacturer to shift quantity and not worry about cash.

The added bonus is that the tax was due end of sept (440), insurance (600), 2nd service (300ish), 2 rear tyres (???) 2 front brake pads/discs.

Loved the vxr8 and glad I had 2 good years of the big v8 but time for something different.

The price changed a couple of days ago so I think it is for October, they went up a bit from August to September then down again for October by a similar amout.

The reason for the first drop of the year is most likely because I bought one.smile

Anyway, however you look at I don't see anything to touch it for the same money.

Exactly. There's no point buying a 6.0L Vauxhall and complaining it's not mainstream. If you resign yourself to keeping it forever, depreciation becomes immaterial. If you want something that holds its value over 3 years buy a diesel Mini and be laughed at by your mates (if you have any).

Or, if you think like me, enjoy your non-sensible purchase while you still can. In 50 years big engine petrol cars will be like dinosaurs, extinct!

If your old car booked at £19,600 and was in mint condition and didnt need anything doing it wouldnt be worth more than £18500 to a dealer due to the risk element of the car, factor in the tax being due, the service and 2 rear tyres who know what they valued it at, £18k possibly on a very good day if the sun was out and the manager was in a good mood and they had a buyer for it, for them to offer you £23k back is purely discount out of the new car so a guess of £5k didnt seem bad!
