Yeah, saw that.

Tbh, I took the plunge straight away - as I do with most driving games (can't help myself biggrin). But I think Shift is a big step forward in many areas, so all being well, you should like it.

just been playing it and initial impressions arent great. seem alittle bit ott and i find myself over correcting all the time and driving down the road fishtailing. graphics seem ok and sounds are great.

a decent amount of content in the demo though with 2 tracks (london and spa) and 5 cars (you have to unlock the zonda.)

will give it some more time later on.

I didn't like it - too arcade like for my liking, and the controls weren't particularly realistic.

just had another go an was struggling to finish a race without turning it off. the cars just seem to slide everywhere. its like driving on ice all the time..... touch the brakes the car slide, touch the throttle the car slide.

seems very arcady and not what i was expecting after all the hype of it being more simulation this time.

Wasnt there a thread on here about gaming disappointments..............

Anyone use the outside view? I have never seen such a wobbly unrealistic view of a car going along a road, it makes Outrun look like a sim!
Even the in car view is enough to induce a headache, and that bloody blurring of the dash at speed....whats all that about?
As for the handling........
As usual NFS lives up to its well earned reputation of being an arcade racer.
Dont buy this thinking it is a rival to Forza3 (or 2 for that matter) or GT5.
Another example of style over function.

Downloaded it, played it for about 10 mins and now deleted.
Didn't like the handling at all... the car didn't feel connected to anything, let alone the road!!!

But is it an improvement over the previous NFS games where cars had a habit of taking off...

Yeah, I really don't feel like i'm missing out on anything. That was a frustrating time. What terrible driving physics.

I must say, I love all this talk of 'driving physics' when talking about a car game.

What utter rubbish. NONE of the driving games out there provide any form of realism with the possible exception of the car's appearence. I can say this after going around the Nurburgring in the same car (even the same colour!) in real life and on video games. Oh, and certain flight simulators - great though they are, are recognised as being the closest match of any computer simulation to the real thing. Again, it's nothing like the real thing. They are a great tool for teaching procedure, which in turn is the same as saying 'to turn left, push the stick left' on a driving game.

It's utter tripe to hear people complaining about the lack of realism in a video game. It's a game folks, get some perspective.

Or perhaps I may sign up with the NY Giants given my superbowl win on Madden?

How else does a program calculate a cars behavior if not using physics? Have you ever played GPL, GTR, rFactor? Agreed NFS it not the last word in realism but don't taint all "games" with the same brush.

Agreed we all have different opinions on where the realism remains enjoyable and there is only so far you can go with a screen and a wheel but to some that is the attraction.

Its a computer games forum, get some perspective.

The people who program driving game physics have PHds in Physics, Fluid Dynamics and/or Computer Science. It is very similar (although different) work to the software and aero teams working on a formula 1 car. It is ALL about physics, and complex mathematical formulae. Not only that but they also have to run at incredible speeds. The problem with NFS, is that their team of physics programmers are nowhere near as good as the team who work at Turn 10 or Simbin. Sure it is nothing like driving a real car, because you're sitting on your sofa??!? But there is a difference in driving physics between something like NFS and something like Forza. One, is far more 'realistic' than the other. Your comment implies that doom 1 is the same as halo 3, because neither are real training for shooting aliens in the face.

It is a game, of course, but I would rather play one with the best driving physics. It's a game, get some perspective.

It may be a game but they're is still a physics engine there to represent the real thing, some build them better than others, Mclaren didn't spend a fortune making a simulator for their drivers for nothing.
A lot of complaint about shifts handling, but this can be adjusted to improve it a great deal. Forzas sound, graphics and lack of cars on the grid cannot be adjusted. smile

The sound is brilliant and I love the way the cars hop and shake in cockpit view like racing cars do, the RSR in the Forza demo doesn't do this. Not impressed with the graphics like and the framerate in the demo at least is up and down like a yoyo. I also don't like the fact that you have to slam the anchors on as soon as you see a corner in the distance otherwise you overshoot it. I'll need to have a play around with the settings as at the moment the handling is shocking.

I was up until 2am the other morning setting up a drift car... Its worth customising as it does completley change the dynamics of the cars.

LOL. Read the credits Salgar. Looks very much to me like the guy who did the physics in GTR, GTL, GTR2 and Shift is the same - ex-racer Doug Arnao.

One person does not build the entire physics engine for a game. If you play SHIFT and any of the above title for more than 5 seconds you would see that.
