Read an article recently where Caparo said they had delivered about a dozen cars. Has anyone seen a privately owned car on track yet?

I guess that's a no then, and they are all tucked away in air conditioned collections in the Middle East! Shame, I'd love to see one mixing it with all the usual track day tools somewhere like Spa.

The factory were at a test day a couple of weeks ago at Snett. The car went out amongst the single seaters and Radicals etc. Went like a scaulded cat on speed! Sounded sublime. Bigger than I expected and the guys were friendly. £300 - 400k though seems rather ridiculous.

I think seeing one at a typical track day is unlikely because they are just too fast for track days. I expect with their price tag, they would be more suited to private test days. Not too dissimilar to the kind that you would take an Enzo FXX to.

What a piece of engineering though. I would love to see one with my own eyes flying around a circuit somewhere.

Suppose the people that can afford to track a £300-400k car can afford some more exclusive track days. Wonder if someone will ever set a lap time at the Ring in one.

This is the press release on Triple Eights website mentioning a race series next year.

"Multi-British Touring Car Championship winning team Triple Eight Race Engineering Ltd has won the contract to run the 16 Caparo T1000 race cars which will compete in the newly created Pro1000 Race Series due to start in 2010. Nigel Rees, MD of Global Sports Development Ltd (GSD), the company responsible for putting the series together, announced today that the remainder of the Testing Season would also be operated by Triple Eight Race Engineering.

“We selected Triple Eight Race Engineering from eight competitive tenders based on their undoubted engineering expertise and their ability to provide the Series with promotional excellence. We are extremely fortunate to have access to the superb Caparo T1000 car and Caparo’s engineering support. Together with Triple Eight’s proven record we will achieve our objective of providing a place where drivers developed via British karting and single seater programmes can earn a living and entertain the public” commented Rees. “I was not only impressed by the technical side of the Triple Eight proposal but also by their attention to the marketing exploitation that will surround it. The potential for the Series to wow the paying public, both on track and at exhibitions all over the UK, is immense. We are delighted to have such a well-respected team, under the guidance of Ian Harrison, on board.”

"Triple Eight feels honoured to have secured the contract with GSD against such strong opposition. Having specialised in touring car design, manufacture and operation for many years, the change of direction will be a challenge that we will relish. The cars are extremely exciting, loud, fast and built to a very high standard, and we are looking forward to working together with GSD and Caparo on the new Pro 1000 race series which promises to give the drivers and fans alike a spectacle unique to the motorsport world" commented Harrison

The Race Series proper kicks off in April 2010, and will cover 10 rounds in the UK. Triple Eight also bring with them unique opportunities, such as a dedicated TV programme in which the series will feature heavily. “This 13 one-hour episodes fly-on-the-wall documentary which follows the trials and tribulations of the Triple Eight Team together with our Race Hall concept where the public will be able to see the cars at close quarters on race day will ensure that we give as much behind the scenes access to the fans as possible and provide them with a unique experience. This TV programme will sit alongside the proposed race-day footage and add an extra element promoting the Series and motorsport in general” added Franck Marie, Triple Eight's Commercial and Marketing Director.

Race day support will be provided by BARC and it is expected that the Race Series home for Pro1000 will be announced shortly.
Stuart Scarbrough, Sales Director of Caparo Vehicle Products Ltd., said “Caparo are pleased that the Caparo T1 is to form the basis for a new car to be used in the Pro1000 Series. The T1000 will use a number of carry-over parts from the T1 in respect of basic chassis and suspension, but will have a Pro1000 –specific powertrain, electronics and bodywork package, all purposely designed to meet GSD specifications to facilitate an exciting race series. A number of de-tuned and modified T1 development cars have been supplied to provide a Pro1000 driver test programme with cars and I am delighted that all those who have driven them have commented that the purpose-built T1-based car will make a tremendous race car which will deliver a superb Pro1000 Series.”

Triple Eight Race Engineering Ltd Company info:

Triple Eight Race Engineering was formed in 1996, primarily to design, build and race Vauxhalls on behalf of the UK arm of General Motors (GM) in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). In 2001, Triple Eight undertook a development programme for the new Vauxhall Astra Coupé, building it to the latest British Touring Car regulations. The introduction resulted in unprecedented success that saw the team take the coveted Manufacturer, Driver and Team titles in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.

The introduction of the Vauxhall Astra Sport Hatch for the 2005 season saw the addition of a fifth consecutive Manufacturer title. The switch to S2000 regulation in 2007 triggered the introduction of the Vauxhall Vectra as the team’s new race car and despite limited development time, the new car provided almost instant success, winning twice at only its second race meeting on its way to securing the Driver and Manufacturer title that year. The 2008 BTCC season was another hugely successful affair for the Triple Eight run VX Racing team, with once again all three championship titles being secured and the team is on course to repeat its success once again in 2009.

The Road Car and Special Projects Division of the company is also responsible for the development and production of several high performance limited edition vehicles as well as enhancement parts.

Caparo Vehicle Products Ltd Company info:

The CVP Group has manufacturing divisions based in the UK, India & Europe including: Automotive Braking Systems, High Performance Brake Calipers, Specialist Fasteners and Forgings, Tubular Components and Assemblies, Composite Systems and Product Design and Manufacture, Specialist Turned Parts, Pressed Parts, Modular Systems and Assemblies. Hi there,

I was speaking to one of the guys from Caparo at the Salon Prive event earlier this year and he also told me they had delivered 12 cars so far. From memory most of these had gone to the Far East with one going to Australia, and one to Hong Kong. They don't see the UK as a massive market (probably selling one or two a year). I think he said there were two in the UK, so its no surprise they are a rare sight on the roads/tracks.

I went to Silverstone in April 2008 and there were three on the track as part of a Caparo customer day. It was an awesome sight:

Has anyone else wondered how that skimpy bodywork can provide any usable down-force?

LOL - and it probably works in a similar way to the skimpy bodywork on F1 cars.

I'm not questioning the rigidity of the bodywork, more the surface area.

F1 cars are much lower and travel at far greater speeds to utilise their skimpy bodywork

If you look at slower prototype racers and Radicals they all have huge areas of bodywork to get the required downforce.

F1 cars are limited by regulations to reduce downforce.

I'm not sure F1 cars are that much faster than the caparo, quicker acceleration but marginal relativeley for acheivable speed.

Trust me. It a far larger car in the flesh than the photo's make you think. There is PLENTY of surface area to work the air.

Where has this price come from? My understanding is that the car has always been intended to sell around the £200k figure, which compares favourably to track specials such as the FXX etc.
