Hmm. Rattle then smoke then clunk then fine

Hope you are all enjoying the good weather in your cars!!

Anyone got any ideas on what to check when the following happens?

I was driving the car home from work today when I noticed a loud rattle behind me. I just assumed this was the heat shield but then noticed blueish smoke when stuck in traffic. About 10mins later went round a roundabout and there was a big clunk like something had fallen off. The rattle stopped immediately so I pulled over and opened the rear clam, all looked ok and I couldnt find anything on the road that looked like it had fallen of a Noble. Went on my way and the car drove fine.

Any ideas? Smoke and rattle coincedence?

It honestly was a pretty big bang like the exhaust had fallen off but all looks ok and sounds ok. Very strange..

do you think it was a backfire ?

how do the water and oil levels look

my guess is one of the turbine blades has come off the turbo and gone out the exhaust

is it holding boost ok now ?

Definitely not a backfire. The clunk sounded like a metalic thump and the rattle stopped as soon as this happened. Driving the car this morning it is definitely smoking more under load but boost appears ok.

Dont know if that is a coincedence or perhaps one turbo is failing.

Similar to mine on Monday, my head gasket blew and dumped the water through the exhaust. Funnily, there was no temp indications just lots of steam and smoke, it even ran fine 5 minutes after. Testimony to the agricultural origins of the engine. Try a compression test on the engine to see if the heads are ok.

I`e checked the oil cap and oil looks fine, the coolant levels are all ok.

Think the best option is to get it checked over.
