I'm sure this has been asked before, but here goes. Has anyone put a 2.8i V6 in an M Series yet? I had a Taimar in the early '80s, and fancy another one. The one I had then had a stage 3 3.1 with triple carbs etc, and went like stink. I would like to restore one, and would think that with a very mildly tuned 2.8i and five speed box, it would make a nice daily driver. Any advice appreciated.
A 2.9 would be a much better idea, it does not have the siamesed exhaust ports of the 2.8, and has the later Bosch L-type injection system. Also the 2.8 had a reputation for poor low-end torque, which meant you had to get the revs up to make it go. I think the stump pulling torque of the original Essex suits the car much more.

The best engine is by far and away the old boat anchor.
The essex has 3 exhaust ports rather than siamesed ones. it has much more torque in std trim and is better to tune. It is also much more simple than an injected motor which is what you would need in a 2.8 or 2.9 to develop power.
Stick with the essex.
If you are hell bent on a swap then a zetec or duratec would be a much better choice??

Type 9 5 Speed ....Using your 3ltr converted bell housing and a conversion cross plate on the chassis, my kit comes with a quick shift....the gear box you need to use is part 2.9 and part 2.8 (strength and then speedo). You might need to change the speedo cable (older versions do not have a small enough fitting to go under the 2.9 version circlip) and will need a speedo recalibration once it is in.
