Virgin Media Broken

My cable modem connection died last night, thought it was just me until I came into work and found that I couldn't get into their website to find some support numbers.

The 'ready' light on the cable modem just blinks rapidly, and the traffic indicators are resolutely dark.

Apparently one of their hubs at Winnersh, Berkshire has had a total loss of power.
They are hoping to get things back up by 2.00 pm (originally they were saying 12.00 noon).

I phoned up about 8:30 this morning, with the only recorded message being about Uxbridge, after being on hold for about 10 mins got through to a guy who said "all our servers are down, should be back up in about 4 hours". Did point out that putting a new recorded message on to that effect may save a lot of people wasting their time...

Just checked, and can now access my house remotely, so it must be back up again (Marlow)

I was resigned to having to deal with their technical support line again - it must be nearly four years since the last cable modem died, and after three days dealing with 5 different layers of NTL/VirginMedia support I was starting to wish I had suffered the same fate.

e-mail still not working so I think I'll just have to assume that it is going to be an e-mail free day - which, in itself, is not altogether a "bad thing".

I'm astonished these things happen and bring down the whole of their system - it's not exactly the most robust of infrastuctures they have there!!

Possibly - as they all mention "NTL" (which officially doesn't really exist anymore except as an e-mail address tag).

I never look in that forum and have never selected it as one of my favourites so didn't even think to look there.

NTL Telewest Business is the business arm of Virgin Media, all use the same backbone so probably not a coincidence
