Headlight multi-plug
Discussion
Hi,
I've finally traced the non-working headlight to a corroded wire snapping off the multi-plug where it connects from the clam to the main loom.
Does anyone know if I can simply get the male half of this connector (unfortunately there are no markings on the casing to identify who makes it), or whether I need to obtain an entire new multi-plug.
If the latter, can anyone recommend one?
Thank for your continued patience whilst I bring my new car up to scratch!

I believe it's a Deutsch connector, probably one of the DT or DTM series.
If the wire is separated from the terminal, you can just remove the terminal from the connector shell, solder the wire back onto the terminal (you need to be careful to keep the connection neat and tidy, so it will go back in place), and put the terminal back into the connector shell.
If you install HIDs, be sure that the front clam is still removable - one of our customers installed HIDs, but mounted the ballasts on the main chassis and hardwired from the ballasts to the bulbs. Unfortunately, he put the wiring through holes in the front bodywork. When I had to remove the front clam, I had to cut apart his wiring to get the clam off. Ended up adding connectors, and rerouting the wiring so that the clam was easily removable again...

when doing wiring on cars and i need to get a wire out of a secured plug i use a 'filling' pick i got from a dentists suppliers, there will be a small hole down the side fron the rear of the pin to push the pick down and then push the connector from the plug side to free it off, where i'd just solder in a new connection and you'd be sorted

Thanks Jim.
Any advice on how to remove the connector from within the plug to re-attach the wires?
Removing a terminal from the connector is fairly easy. From the front of the connector (the mating side, not the wire side), remove the wedgelock (on the female connector, it's a plastic plug that fits between the two rows of terminals. On the male connector, it's the flat plate on the front of the connector) - it should just pull straight out or pry out with a small screwdriver. In the cavity where the wedgelock used to be, you should be able to see the individual terminals, which are held in place by fingers molded into the outer shell. Use a small pick or screwdriver (I use a jeweler's screwdriver) to gently pull the finger away from the terminal, and push the terminal towards the wire side (or pull on the wire...). Any advice on how to remove the connector from within the plug to re-attach the wires?
